Homemade Halloween Costumes????

Okay, I'd love to know what the bowl of mac n'cheese and the speed bump look like!

I don't have the photo's with me I'll look when I get home. Both were super easy to make. For the Speed Bump I took a large truck tire that a neighbor had and painted a portion of the treads black then rolled it across a yellow sweatsuit. I had my son carry a caution speed bump sign.....it was awesome.

For the Mac n' cheese we took several pieces of craft store round foam and cut it in 4, spray painted the foam orange and attached them to a white sweatshirt. for the Bowl we used one of those large round pails that you can put a keg in and painted it blue. For the spoon we used a shovel.

Help!!!

My son wants to be the Headless Horseman for Halloween. I did a Google search and they all seemed so complicated! The one on Family Fun looked great, but requires a box and glueing a cape, shirt, etc, all to it. I need to use regular clothing - pants, shirt, etc. We live in Florida - we don't have big heavy outer-garments and they are not available at thrift stores because no one around here needs them. It's often quite warm on Halloween, so I don't want him to sweat to death inside a box. Anyone have an easier idea? We do have a lightweight black cape and a light-up jack-o-lantern that he could carry as the head.

Thanks for any help you can give this craft-challenged mom!

I would use a mens black button up shirt and the cape to make it light weight. You could pin the clothing to the box rather than use hot glue. Unless you have batting laying around both packing peanuts or wadded tissue paper are great for stuffing sleeves.
Get a box, an old button up shirt, some safety pins and play around...

This is such a neat costume idea. I'm going to show it to DS13. He needs something cool for his masquerade dance.

I still think DS's best costume ever was as a giant Lego. Every boy loves Legos, right?

Here's the basic idea:

We didn't do the hat. My son chose blue and we put him in jeans and a royal-blue hooded sweatshirt. All it took was the right size box, eight margarine tubs (from grandma), and a can of spray paint.

My son was a Lego last year and it was a big hit. I glued applesauce containers to a box and then spray painted it red. He wore a red sweatshirt and a red baseball cap. On the cap, I glued a green square Lego base, in which he added some pieces and a figure. I punched holes at the top and use bungie cords as suspenders. He loved it!

My boys love Pokemon. So they have decided to be Ash Ketchum and from Team Rocket, James. They are pretty easy to do.

Our daughter is going as a can of Campbell's soup... Our last name is Campbell.... My mother-in-law made it. It is really quite cute!

Have you looked on the familyfun.com website. That is where I used to get ideas for my kids' Halloween costumes when they were younger. When my son was around 7, we made him a Lego costume. Got the idea from Family Fun and it was fairly easy to make. Another idea is a "Construction Zone". Use black sweats and sweat shirt and yellow duct tape. Tape "road lines" up the legs and up the middle of the shirt. I then took construction vehicle Hot Wheels and attached them to the "road" with hot glue. We made a Pylon out of neon orange poster board. That was probably my favorite one. I also got that one from Family Fun. Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas! I'm going to try to use a black shirt of my husband's and see if we can get something to work!

DS7 is going as Agent P - from Phineas and Ferb.
Found sweat outfit in that color, orangy fleece for a tail, styrofoam for the eyes .. found a mask , painted it , now trying to figure out waht to do for the "bill"

I bet you could use that fun foam for the bill. I know you can get it in sheets at Michaels or Hobby Lobby and it's pretty cheap.
