Home resort short term availability?

We're on the verge of buying a resale and have a question regarding the likely hood of finding a one bedroom room upon signing up. Considering that every other member has had an 11 or 7 month head start for booking into our home resort, wouldn't likely be filled? If so, how long, on average, would we have to wait before one bedrooms begin to open up. Could someone take a quick peek at OKW to see how far out it may be (I'm assuming it's on-line). I have noticed rentals available for non-DVC members, but I don't know if DVC members are eligable for these rooms, too.

Thanks,

Duddley

I will try to help

Availibility for DVC is not online. Member Services is closed for the weekend so can't check that until Monday.

If you are purchasing resale, you will have to wait until you close on your contract before you can make a reservation. So you will most likely be 60 to 90 days out.

This is where I start to get fuzzy so I'll let someone else take it from here:wave: LOL

The likelihood of rooms being filled on short notice depends on the time of year. If you were trying to get a trip for later this month, I think you would find that to be difficult as it's a very busy time of the year.

Spring Break is also very busy.

But no matter what, it's always worth trying to get a reservation for the time you're looking for. You never know if someone might cancel or if for some reason it's just not fully booked.

Also, the more flexibility you have on room type or DVC resort location, the better your chances of getting short term reservations.

Good luck with your resale.

If you are talking about busy times like spring break or Easter, it would be very difficult, but I think totally possible all other times. It also depends on what size unit you are looking for. If you are flexible, I think It is very possible to get into OKW.

Your chances of getting something short-term are probably actually better than trying to book at 5-6 months. Some of those who booked right away may now have a change in plans that might free up something. No one can really say anything "for sure" until the day you actually call MS and try to book. There could be 5 1-bedrooms available today and someone will call tomorrow and book them all for a family reunion. Of course, on Friday another family reunion could "blow up" and free 3 1-bedrooms for the date you want. It's fluid.

If you could expand the one-bedroom to include other DVC resorts and/or studios as well you would also increase your chances.

Thanks, PamOKW.

So, can oyu put yourself on a waitlist to be notified if what you desire opens up, or is it up to the member to keep inquiring?

You can put yourself on an automatic fill waitlist - that is you put yourself on the waitlist and if a match comes up they fill it and reserve. You can also set it up so they hold it I think for 24hrs and contact you to confirm. If they do not hear back they release back into inventory

thanks

For short term availability, OKW is without a doubt your best bet. Good luck!

My brother called 1 week out and got a 1BR at BWV for this Friday,Saturday and Sunday. He is just going down for 3 days.

On such short notice, Nick? ;)
I believe the OP was talking about short term availabilty that occurs on a regular basis, NOT something that happens once in a while as an exception vs the norm.:teeth:

Firday and SAT should be easier because of the high pt use. (3 nt 112 pts) wow! Congrats to your brother, I just couldn't do that for all those pts.

The pts were from a friend of his, that were going to expire, so he didn't even have to use his pts at all.;)

We've had a NYE and 1st week in January reservation booked since 11-months out.

Some other things came up to keep us in Florida longer and so we decided to try for some more DVC time.

Two weeks ago I was able to book a 1-B/R at OKW for 5-days, week of Jan 18th. (We'll be looking at some Real Estate on the weekend....)

Also wanted a 1-B/R for OKW for 5-days week of Jan 25th but only a Studio was available. I did an auto waitlist and when we received the confirmation in the mail 2-days ago, the 1-B/R was on it so the waitlist came through almost immediately.

So the above was at less than 2-months.

If you're totally flexible in your time, after you close you can call and just see what the first available time is.

As to checking availability on-line, DVC has hinted on several occassions over the years that this was coming. However after much waiting and nothing happening, members on this board have learned not to hold your breath waiting for this feature.....:(
