Home Resort / Non-Home Resort Point Question

Can somebody verify for me the plan we have will work? We've never had 2 home resorts before so this is new to me.

Current Situation:
  • Currently have a split of 4 days / 5 days in different rooms for the end of June at Home Resort 1 using Home Resort 1 Points.
  • We'd rather be in the same room the whole time so want to swap the first 4 days for the same room type as the last 5 days.
  • We are short on points for this (even with borrowing). The total reservation for desired room type is 219 points. We currently have 197 tied up between the split.

My Current Plan:
  • Currently have 180 points available to use from Home Resort 2.
  • Today I started walking (I know not guaranteed to work at 7 months) 7 days at a time. This was 161 points.
  • If I am able to continue walking this until the end of it coincides with the first 4 days of the split above it will be 167 points.
  • At that point I should be able to cancel the 4 days of the first split and free up 76 points from Home Resort 1
  • This would be enough points to add 3 days to the end of the reservation in the desired room type.
  • Will it allow me to combine Home Resort 1 Points (desired resort) and Home Resort 2 Points to extend the reservation to Day 1-Day 10?
  • I would then need to walk the reservation for 2 more days and have all the days we need.
Hopefully that makes sense and thanks for any advance.

ETA: In theory I know I could stop once I get to the end of the first part of the split and then ask for either a merge or notation of a continuing stay, but I'd rather just get all 9 days myself.

If you secure the initial days during a non home resort period with non home resort points, you can connect it to a home resort trip.

You can then use the home resort points to add nights if you want for the days you still have booked.

Thanks Sandi. I figured you would be able to provide the answer.

Hi Sandi,

I wanted to ask another follow up just so that I am 100% understanding. So if I have 7 nights booked with non-home resort points I should be able to modify to say 10 nights if I have enough home resort points to extend that far -- and the online booking tool is smart enough to do this?

For example (using a home resort period 3/6 split, which is different than I referenced above):
  • the 7 nights booked w/non-home resort points is 167 points and the last night 3 overlap the first 3 nights of the original split (different room type).
  • If I cancel those 3 nights from the original split it frees up enough points to cover 2 nights in the desired room type.
  • I can then modify the non-resort home booking and add 2 more nights at the end.
  • And I can do this online.
Does the above scenario work?

It should work because what they system will do is use the home resort points for the initial nights and then finish up with the non home resort points.

When you modify just check both contracts and let the system do the rest!

Thanks, thats where I was getting confused / hesitant. I assumed it would have to be first 7 nights w/non-home resort points (so that I am within the 7 month booking period) and then the last nights using the home-resort points since it would be greater than 7 months + 7 days.

Worst case, you just book the, woth home resort points and ask MS t combine once we are beyond the 7 month and 10 days.

With a non-home resort, are we allowed to make a reservation (assuming availability is there) for 7 months plus up to an additional 4 nights? If I wanted to reserve 11/7 - 11/12, could I make the entire reservation on April 7 assuming there is availability?

You can do 7 months + 6 nights (total of 7 nights) right at the 7 month mark with non-home resort points.

Following up my original question, what I wanted to do would not work. I tested the other day to add 2 nights to the end of a 7 night stay that was reserved with non-home resort points and it doesn't pull up the home resort contract if you are already at 7 nights with the non-resort home points. You'd have to wait until you are x number of days inside of the reservation to add home resort points to it. In other words if you wanted 9 nights you'd have to wait until you are 2 months inside of the 7 month booking window to add those 2 nights.
