How many of you love the DVC but hate the home hotel you have? We are in that boat. I'm not sure that it is a good idea for us to deal it away it would be nice if DVC had a plan where you could some how trade interests. We were at our home hotel recently and absolutely hate it. We had to stay there because of the type of room we needed, never again!!!!!!!! I will pay the difference and use a Disney hotel from know on. We had issues with our transportation, room temp controls, which I fixed, but it shouldn't have to come down to problems when its suppose to be MAGICAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :confused3

everyone can have a bad trip once - if not several times. kept in mind you brought DVC for the long haul not just one trip.

that say if you are really unhappy with your home resort - then sell it.

then with the money (and probably some more) buy one that you are happy with.

The two problems you specifically mention, transportation and temp controls, are not really isolated to any single resort. I wouldn't get rid of a contract based on those issues.

Just my opinion..

My problem is I haven't met a DVC resort yet that I didn't like. They all have their plusses and minuses.

We own at SSR and love it for it's closeness to DTD and the ability to quickly switch to other resorts.

We plan on adding on in the future the difficulty will be in which resort to add on at.

We stayed at SSR and were less then thrilled. But we dont own there, so that is good for us. We own at BWV and BLT, we love being within walking distance to MK and Epcot. Good luck with whatever decision you make...

The beauty of DVC is you never have to stay at your home resort. I've had great success at the 7 month window.

We love our home resorts (VWL, AKV and HHI); but have stayed at most of the others and really have no complaints about any of them (including SSR). The only ones we haven't stayed at are BCV, VB and BLT, but hope to stay at them some day. Typically what I do is make my ressie at 11 months and then if we want to stay somewhere different, we try to change at 7 months if we can; if not we're just satisfied with our home resort ressie. I have to say and please don't take it personally OP; but I've seen some might strange reasons that folks don't like various resorts for one reason or another. IMO they are all good.

You say you had to stay there b/c of the type of room you needed. Does that mean you booked at less than 7 months? If so and that is normal then the home resort won't matter but I'm just guessing here.

You don't have to stay at your home resort and I wouldn't sell unless I had a specific resort I wanted to stay at and was consistently unable to get it at 7 months.

Also - we've experienced transportation issues of some sort at every Disney property we've stayed it. It happens at all of them.

I am not understanding how staying at a Disney Hotel is going help your situation? You had transportation trouble, but no matter where you stay on property you are going to have to use their transportation unless you use your own car or rent one. What exactly happened with the transportation?

I can tell you that ALL the resorts had major transportation issues the last two mornings because of the Marathon and Half-Marathon. It took me nearly 45 minutes to get to the Grand Floridian from OKW (driving) for my Mom's hair salon appointment.

Every resort has transportation issues from time to time.

To my knowledge, there is no program in the DVC in which you can trade your home resort for another. However, if you are displeased with your current home, it may be worthwhile to sell your current contract and buy points at a resort you would love to stay at. Granted, you might end up losing money on the sell and buy transactions. But keep in mind that for the next 32 years to 50 years you'll be owning at a resort you really want to stay at. You might enjoy your DVC membership much, much more by doing a switch. Good luck on your decision!!

We were in that kind of boat too-we didn't exactly hate our home resort, we just didn't like it, and we loved the next DVC resort we stayed at. We bought in partially because of the DVC resort that was being sold-we were sure we'd love it there. Wrong! As of now, DVC won't let you trade interests, switch home resorts. We did sell, but not after we bought the resort we loved on the resale market. Financially it may not have made much sense, but we've never regretted it. We're so happy being owners where we love, especially when it's dues time and we know our dues are going to maintain there. I think it would get to me to have to pay every year to help maintain a resort I didn't like.

O.K...."hate" is a strong word. Many of us might not like our home resort as much as another. But, I got into DVC for a great deal(SSR), with fairly low monthly dues and for that, I LOVE IT!!! I just pretend my home resort is where I left my heart after my stay at AKV. :lovestruc

If you're not happy sell and get out. It's too expensive for you not to be happy. Plus it might help me get my waitlist sooner! :)

We sold one resort and bought back in at another years ago. (sold OKW for BCV)

NO regrets. It was just about a break even for us at the time, for several reasons.

So far we have only tried 2 resorts, our home resort SSR and AKV. We are looking forward to trying the others. VWL will be our next one to try in June. The kids like AKV so we may try that one again too. We have not had any troubles booking a non-home resort at the 7 month window. We have not tried BCV or BWV for booking though. I think there are issues with transportation no matter what resort you are at. We had some issues at AKV that we did not have at SSR and vise versa, all depends on how lucky you are and where you are going. Good luck with whatever decisions you make!:flower3:

I'd say (like others), if you don't like where your home resort is, sell....BUT, i wouldn't buy elsewhere till you stay there at least once. Your "dream resort" may have issues you may not like there as well once staying there. There are many different issues at each resort. Just wouldn't want you to make the same mistake twice. :thumbsup2

I don't "hate" my home resort, but as others have noted in previous threads, I simply didn't "bond" with it. Indeed, it took me nearly 5 years to even visit the home resort as my typical travel demands a different DVC property for work-related conference attendance.

We made our first DVC-vacation visit to the home resort last Dec and while it may not be my favorite -- it had its benefits. I really enjoyed the many walking trails and use of the boat transport along the Sassagoula River. Fun, fun, fun!

As others have said in this thread:
  • Use your existing points at other DVC locations at the 7-month window.
  • If you must, sell the resort and buy a preferred location. Expect to add money to the equation.
  • Sell altogether and simply pay cash to book WDW/DL rooms through CRO, rent DVC from other owners, etc.
Best wishes on your pondering and decisions. Don't let this get you down ... (keep it in perspective).

I love them all...I agree with the poster who said each has something to offer.
We have had some issues at times, springs sticking out of mattresses, no A/C, and all kinds of little things, but to me, the DVC villas are my favorites.
We own at SSR and VWL. I wouldn't judge the DVC on a few incidents. We have stayed at the hotels and had the same issues. If you really don't like DVC I wouldn't keep it, but that's me.
