I have a question about Home Resort and the point usage.

I currently own 180 points at BLT.
If I were to purchase 50 points somewhere else, AKL for an example, would I be able to reserve AKL at eleven months for 230 points?

DH says yes, that was one of the selling points, but I can't seem to remember. Can you use all your points at the eleven month mark for one of your home resorts? If the answer is yes, it would be even more of an incentive to add on to our current points.

Thanks for your help.

No, the 11 month window is good for points issued at that resort only. You would have 11 months window for 180 points at BLT and 50 points at AKV.

Another option would be the use of banking and borrowing, for instance, by banking AKV points for 2011, and borrowing from year 2013, you could have 150 points available for AKV in year 2012.

You could use them all at 7 months out.

Another +1 for Chuck :)

Before 7 months, you can only use home resort points for that resort.

Tell your husband not to take it too hard, as this is a frequently-asked question on the DVC boards. Many people are confused by this rule and believe, incorrectly, that owning any points at a resort entitles the member to home resort booking priority for every booking.

As mentioned by previous posters, you can effectively use banking and borrowing to turn a smaller contract into a home resort booking every three years.
