home resort advantage booking question

So, I'm going to be renting points from a DIS member soon (hopefully) because we've used our points for Dec. already and just can't bring ourselves to stay w/o being in a DVC resort villa. That made me think about our 2016 trip where we will be going to DL for the first time and planned to use our points at the GC. But since we don't own there, I have to wait for that pesky 7 month window. ;) SO, my question is, do people here on DIS ever trade points between them to get the home resort booking advantage? For example, someone owning at GC would trade their points for someone that owns at a WDW resort. As long as they did it between 11-8 months, they'd still have the advantage. Granted, someone in the trade would probably be getting a better deal in the arrangement, but thats their choice on the matter. Just wondering if people ever do this? I know I know, I'm fretting something almost 3 years away. that's not unusual for me. :scratchin

I rented points for next summer at HHI to make sure we got the room we wanted the week we wanted. I then rented out my points to someone else (used Davids for both ends - so there was a $3 a point delta, but I did almost no work for either transaction).

I think the issue with doing a straight up trade will be getting the relative value for both parties - creating the match - if your vacation is slightly more points than theirs, if they think their GCV points are worth more than SSR points - or only want BLT when you don't have BLT points. It will be hard to find the trade.

Maybe that might be a better way ti go. I'm not sure. We have AKV points. So especially if someone wanted the concierge rooms which we've gotten before and you almost HAVE to own there to get them without even that being a guarantee, it can be a boon, otherwise, GCV owners could wait out their few months easily for most room availability I suppose.
Maybe I should look at how "easily" rooms are gotten at the GCV at 7 months out. We never get the least points rooms so maybe there's a shot.

Not easily, regardless of time of year. Its a small resort with a lot of owners who own there to stay there, plus all the DVC members thinking Disneyland would be a nice change.
