Home phone and cell or just cell?

I shut my home phone off yesterday, found that paying for 2 phones put a crunch on other bills. So far I don't mind it, has anyone else done this and kept it this way or did you go back to your home phone too?

We have a home phone and cell phones, however work pays for our cell phones so there is no extra burden. If we were paying for our own cell's I do think I would cancel the home phone (except sometimes during and after hurricanes cell phones don't work and a wired home phone will, so who knows )

We've been thinking about it. We hardly make any calls, we don't have dial up for our internet, when we call long distance we use DD's phone with the free long distance. Our monthly land line runs about 40.00 a month, if we add 4 more cells to DD's phone it is 9.95 a line so we could use either Dh's or my number for our "home" number. According to my last bill I made over 60 phone calls last month. That would be 2 calls a day average, sometimes 1 week will go by and we don't use our phone, the kids use their cells, we're at work or school most of the day, how we make over 60 calls a month is beyond me.

We have both a home phone and cell phones. I don't want the kids' friends calling my cell . Our land line isn't that expensive since we get a bundled deal with our cable and internet. We used the cells for long distance.

We have both. The phone in the house is just very basic service. We have Verizon DSL and we have a cell phone. Long distance, we use the cell. Mostly everyone that I call has Verizon also, so I don't use up the minutes that I have. Nights and weekends are free. I only have 400 minutes on the cell. I never go over that.

It's been almost 5 years since I had a land line. We use our cell phones for everything. For the extra $9.95 per month which was about $30 less than what we paid for a land line each month we got an additional cell phone to keep at home. I wouldn't change a thing!

When it was just me and my young son, I went totally cell. It made no sense for me to have both. I think as long as everyone in the family has a cell, there is no point in having a land line.

I have since gotten married and I don't have a cell anymore, we just use VoIP.

We have both. Work pays for my cell so there's no added expense there. We pay for DH's, but it's a great plan we've had for YEARS.

We need our landline, since neither of our carriers work inside many of the rooms in our house. Our phone was out for 5 days in November, and we were standing out on the deck, using our cell phones to make calls. It was a huge drag.

We were cell only for more than 2 years. When we moved, we got a land line. Overall, cell only was fine. But a couple of things to think about...Do you ever send or receive faxes from home? About once every 6-8 weeks, we wanted to fax and had to wait until one of us went to work or go to neighborhood Kinkos (kind of a pain). Also, cell reception in the house can be tricky. Our home had a couple of "dead spots."

We now have VOIP which only adds about 20 per month to phone expenses, but gives convenience of picking up a home phone and being able to fax. Vonage rocks, in case you're interested.

We gave up our land line about 6 months ago. Everyone we called was 'long distance', and added up. Plus DD had a prepaid phone, and we loved the convenience of it, since we borrowed it when we went out of town. We have 1000 min, which is way more than we really need, but with a 15yr old DD, and a 17yr old DS, we just didn't want to go over. If they had 750 we would probably go with that, but the plan I signed up with through my work was either 500 or 1000 (and up). It is just too expensive to go over, but in the long run, we save money now, since all our calls are free.......practically everyone has Verizon that we know.

We've done it for going on 4 years. Works well for us.

I recently moved and have not had a land-line phone installed. My dd and I have our cell phones, I have over 4,000 minutes carried over, so why pay for a land-line phone? Plus, the cell is expensive itself, but I need it to keep in touch with my dd.

We have both. Oklahoma just pasted a small tax to pay to put gps on the emergency 911 so that they can locate cell phone calls. So when that goes into effect I will probably cancel the land line.

Katrina actually made the decision for me. I have a New Orleans cell phone, but it is still very difficult to get a land line so I haven't even tried to get one.
