We got back from our first stay at Fort Wilderness on May 10th. It was our best trip. WE LOVED it there. We stayed in cabin 2812 :cloud9:
The golf cart was awesome. DD and DH had a blast. I almost didn't want to leave during the day and loved coming back after the parks....so relaxing and peaceful and beautiful. We will definitely be back. It's our new favorite place.
Now we want a travel trailer;)

Shelly,

Now you can understand how I have migrated into my Fort travel pattern.

We go every year or so because we love the Fort (we pull a pop-up from Alabama).

We spend half our days in the parks and the other half we lounge around the Fort and venture out for a few hours each day to play putt-putt, go to DTD, or the Outlet Store.

Once you start hanging out at the Fort you notice so much daily. Painters at work on the Bike Barn; pressure washers at Pioneer Hall; shoeing the horses at the Tri-Circle-D; street sweeper machines in the loop; turkeys walking through the camping loops....

You need to schedule a return visit right away even if it's way out in the future.

PS - So, X, you're home dude? or posting from the Fort? :rolleyes1

We head out Monday morning, First stop Monte Sano State Park. Second Stop Florida Caverns, Third Stop Lake Lousia Forth Stop FORT WILDERNESS!

Addictive for sure, going on our second trip... 2200 miles @ 6.5 MPG

Miss Shelly, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your first Fort stay! We are anxiously counting down the days until our first trip to the cabins (end of September/early October). I'm thinking of requesting that 2800 loop too.

So glad you had a great trip - can I beg a bit more in the way of details?? We're heading down to the Fort Cabins in October (very excited), and would love to hear a "first timer's" thoughts and experiences. Did you eat much in the cabin or mostly out at the parks? Did you get the golf cart from WDW or outside (Kenny?)? Did you go to Mickey's BBQ? The sing-a-long? Movie? Was there anything the cabin didn't have that you would have liked? And so forth...

Thanks!

Hi Chynasmom,
Well, we ordered groceries ahead of time from gardengrocer.com. Mostly all breakfast and waters. They were great. So we ate breakfast in cabin and did lunches and dinners at parks or at Trail's End...dinner buffet was our favorite. We did get a golf cart from Disney. That was one of our favorite things to do..driving around, exploring. I would always get a cart for sure. Everyone is so friendly there. We didn't do BBQ or movies. My dd 13yrs. old did the archery experience and LOVED it. We rented searaycers...very fun. We also liked getting to MK by boat. It was added fun. The place is magical. We were close to the smaller pool which was nice, we swam every night before bed. Another thing I noticed was NO bugs ( like no mosquitos or flies ) but lots of little lizards, my dh and dd loved trying to catch them. I hope you have a wonderful time and I'm sure you"re going to love it.
P.S. the cabin had everything we needed. you do need to get things like salt and pepper etc. housekeeping was amazing, dishes and all. They also have a couple stores to get items.
