I talked to two banks about a Home Equity Loan - one will charge about $120 in closing costs; one will charge $1,000 in closing costs! I didn't know banks would be so different.

We got a home equity line of credit and didn't pay anything in fees or closing costs! Shop around!!

you should really shop around. Are you looking for a HELOC ( Line Of Credit )? Or a straight loan where you get it all in one sum? Most banks charge nothing these days for Home Equity loans.
