has anyone got carpet from home depot? were you happy with it?

now I saw they are having a $39 installation and wondered if it was worth it or if it would be a headache -- we have never worked with them.

It would all depend on the contractors that they use to install. I know two people had an install recently after purchasing carpeting and installation from Home Depot. The first went terrible and there were 7 or 8 seams and the carpet was laid in two different directions so that the seam was very noticeable and this room wasn't an extremely oversized room. It should have had one seam. The second install went fine but it was a small room.

I do need to add though that the first install was made right after several phone calls by the purchaser to Home Depot Headquarters. They completely reinstalled with new carpeting about two months later.

We just had Home Depot carpet installed in our house about 3 months ago. The company they used to install was called Carpet Pros, and they were AWESOME! Absolutely loved the Carpet Pros, they did an amazing job! I believe they are nationwide, because they called to set up time for install, I wasn't home and I replied to a 1-800 number. But as prevous poster mentioned, install can either make or break a good carpet purchase.

We own a small carpet cleaning company, and my husband has been in residentials that have had new carpet put in by these people we know and he keeps telling me that he is soooo gald we didn't go thru them. He believes the Carpet Pros are the best he has seen. :thumbsup2

We had carpet from Home Depot installed about 3-4 years ago. All of the carpet is "shredding" around the walls-like strings pulling out when I vacuum. And the seams between rooms are terrible. There is at least a 2 inch gap where you can see the padding in the doorways. I don't know if the carpet shrunk after they installed it or what happened. I would never buy carpet from them again. They would not honor the warranty and fix it. When they installed the carpet, the color in the living room was different than the rest of the house. They cut it from a different lot and never noticed the difference. I noticed it as soon as I walked into the room-it was really bad. I went back and asked for a partial refund and had to fight for that. They offered to replace the carpet but it wouldn't be available for a month and we had new furniture coming the next day, plus all of the rest of our furniture was out in the garage (living room and 2 bedrooms worth-so we didn't want to have to move it all again). It was a complete nightmare-run far away from Home Depot carpeting!

We bought Home Depot carpet for our rental vacation condo about 3 years ago. The installation was fine and we've had no problems.

Lowe's is running a $39 whole house install on Stainmaster. Mine will be installed tomorrow so I'll let you know how that goes. So far everything has been handled very well (measuring, ordering, follow-up).

We had Home Depot install carpet in our rental property & we were not happy at all with the contractor they used for us or the quality of the install. It all depends on who they contract out to for the service. I've heard some a great, some are terrible. We won't use them again that's for sure!

It was absolutely horrible. The crew they sent was terrible. They scratched my walls with the carpet (how I still don't know). My baseboards were chipped. There was carpet glue on the walls of my hallway and in the bedrooms. They cut the carpet wrong and left me with an uncarpeted bedroom and carpet nails sticking up everywhere...in my toddlers room.

I called the Ben Hill line and they did work to make it right. But I had a 16 month old and a newborn and it should have been right the first time. What should have taken a few hours took 2 weeks.

I will never use a home depot contractor for anything ever. I am sure there are good ones out there but I am not going to risk it.

We got HD carpet 5 years ago when we moved into our house. They came out, 2 guys, who were subcontractors. They were nice and did an ok job.... until I noticed my baby monitor did not work....because they had cut the cord!!!!

Now I understand it was an accident, and if they had come to me to let me know, all would have been fine, but ti try and hide it like they did....not cool. We talked to the manager at HD and they told me to buy another monitor, bring them the receipt and they would deduct it from my HD Credi card bill...which they did, but it was an awful lot of extra work for me, esp with a new baby and a 14mo old!

We had them install flooring in the kitchen at our old house about 10 years ago. The seams were awful. It came up around the edges and they had to come back out to replace the round molding -- didn't put it back in the first place!!!

We looked at Home Depot but got a better quote at a carpet-only store (Carpet One). They did a nice job and we were happy with their work. No personal experience with HD carpet installs, but prices elsewhere may be better :thumbsup2

I did (in my last home). No issues, would use them again.

I also used them to install my screen door (I think it is called a forever door) on the front porch. They had to build out the frame and again, no issues.

Good luck!

at a local carpet store. They did an AMAZING job installing the carpet. They were so thorough in the prep work. It was amazing how much dirt was under there. Eek.

Just remember everything is negotiatable.

Not carpeting, but I have a horrible story with Lowe's and a new kitchen floor (linoleum). At the time Home Depot used the same installer, so it would have been the same with either company. They used a subcontractor who used his own subcontractor on top of that. The guy tried to hit me up for more money and did a TERRIBLE job. When I complained to the first sub who sent him they pulled him off the worksite and acted like I was a crazy person who made the whole thing up. A second guy finished the job and it was still terrible. Several months later when the floor starting falling apart and having problems from the subfloor up, an Armstrong inspector was sent out and lo and behold, I was no longer the crazy one after all...the install job was that bad. In the end a new floor was put in (and done correctly) but it was so not worth the sleepless nights and aggravation.

For carpeting I'd go through a reputable company with in-house installers who are very experienced. Our carpet purchase and install from Empire was terrific. If you do go with Home Depot make sure you find out exactly who the installer will be and ask lots of questions about experience and backround.

we ordered rugs from them a yr ago when they came to install the rug was too short. After a long fight with Home Depot and a promise to have another rug out to us in a week. we agreed to give them another chance. The day before installment I get a call from Home Depot the rug came in too short again. Another huge fight and I got my money back and ran.
Rethink about using them.

Another thing to keep in mind is they will force you to order way more carpet then you need.

We had HD install our basement carpeting with no issues. Ordered an in-stock carpet for $2/sq ft installed. It is a nice plush.

Last month, we had Lowes install new carpet on our other two floors of the house. Ordered an in-stock carpet and paid $1.50/sq ft installed for nylon FRIESE!! This included our stairs. Fantastic deal--cheaper than HD. We did get our install for $139. The $39 install at Lowes was only for Shaw carpet, which was 4 times the price for the same stuff.

Home Depot is coming to my house today to measure for my new carpet in my family room and bedroom.

yep. a few of my firends and neighbors had this issue when shopping around. We have a place called "Luna" here, I noticed they were advertising the $39 installation as well, so shop around.Independant shops usually have more le-way than places like HD or Lowes. One thing with going with a regular carpet place over a bix box is the direct communication for any problems that may arise...just a thought.

I would caution anyone thinking about using HD or Lowes installation services, simply because of the way they contract the installation out. You could get a great, experienced professional who will do a top-notch job, or you could get a neighborhod handyman who is using the big box as a 'side' source of income. Basically anyone with the proper builders' license and insurance can become an installer, regardless of experience. We looked into it as a way to expand DH's customer base when he was first starting out, and I was absolutely floored by how easy it is to get on their installers list.
