Home Alone

Also, a number of moviegoers thought that the made-up "movie within a movie" Angels With Filthy Souls was an actual movie. People searched for it on video and were puzzled when they couldn't find it.

Trivia Question: What other (real) movie do we see Kevin watch a bit of? (Hint - I think it's before Angels..., soon after he wakes up.)

Miracle on 34th Street

Seriously though on the drive to the airport someone could’ve checked the tickets and realized they didn’t have Kevin’s…

Was it in a stack of VHS tapes??

I am trying to picture it in my mind... For some reason I want to say it is "The Fly", before I google it.

*I cannot find the image on google of that stack of VHS :rotfl2:

I was going to watch Home Alone today, but I couldn't get the thing to work so I am streaming Elf right now. I WILL be watching Home Alone soon though I will figure out how to get it working.

This thread has me way way way overthinking Home Alone. Comparing my three sets of Aunts/Uncles with 5 to 6 kids, when you went to their house they had at least two chest freezers full of food. They had boxes of powdered milk on hand either for when they ran out of fluid milk, or because they had so many kids that fluid milk was too expensive, it was the only milk they bought. They had a stockpile of laundry soap. And in one case, because they remote area of Canada where getting groceries in winter could be tough, they had powdered eggs too.

They would not have a reason to do that considering the fact that there were 17 total passengers in the two vans. This means that there would be 9 passengers in one van and 8 in another if everyone was present. Given that Kevin wasn't there, AND the fact that the Kevin's cousin counted the neighbour kid as Kevin would put 8 passengers in each van. Each van's occupants would assume that the other van had 9 people and therefore there was no reason to question Kevin's absence as he could've been in the other van.

Yeah that’s a valid argument, but shouldn’t someone also notice they only had 16 tickets since Kevin’s was thrown away.

That is a valid retort, especially considering that Kevin's ticket had his NAME on it. This implies that (and it would be reasonable to assume) that Kate or Peter would've then handed out the tickets to the kids and would've noticed then that Kevin wasn't around. Then again, they overslept and were scrambling to get ready and as someone who has been running late to a flight, I see how this could happen. This of course, gets dealt with in the second film when we see Kate handing out tickets in the van and Kevin grabs his from the front seat.

Man, I need to get out more....

The most unrealistic part of Home Alone, to me, is that in a house full of people, no one is awake before 8 am? Not even the parents?? I don't know about anyone else, but before a major trip I wake up a least a few times per night worrying if I've overslept. And Kevin is 8, and he has a younger cousin - are you telling me all those little kids slept past 8?? I'm lucky if my kid sleeps past 6:30. :P And because of this, I'm lucky to wake up after 7 on the weekends.

(Add this to the list of movies that no longer make sense with cell phones. Power goes out, cell phone alarm still goes off!)

I actually set multiple alarms the night before I have an early flight as I am always super paranoid that I am going to sleep in. I do think that it's interesting that a film that pushes the level of plausibility to an absurd extreme has become an international holiday classic (my students in Poland even watch it every year).

Looks like it was something involving Bruce Springsteen??

The dvd player thing works better when you find a cable to hook it up. Some "jackwagon" had "borrowed" it.

Wow, especially teens, during school breaks we were lucky if they were up before 2 pm!

Yeah, I watched it recently and was like, wait a minute, why doesn't the neighbor question why Kevin is all alone? He knows how many people live in that house. And after he helps save Kevin from the Wet Bandits, he doesn't even invite Kevin to stay at his house or make sure the police know that Kevin is home alone? :P

Actually, they just hand the gate person a fistful of tickets, and she opens the door and struggles to do a head count herself:

As DS just reminded me, this was pre-9/11. Security and airport procedures were far laxer than they are now.

The gate attendant wouldn’t have noticed anything amiss though as the family had the right amount of tickets for those that boarded.

Peter who was holding all of the tickets didn’t at any point check how many tickets he had. He put all of the passports and tickets in the microwave and never checked he had everything.
