We just got a (front loading, high efficiency) new washer and to wash a load seems to take a lot longer than our old (top loading, pretty ancient) washer.

heavy duty - 104 minutes
normal - 58 minutes
whites - 75 minutes
delicates - 45 minutes

Do you have a high efficiency, front loading washer and do your cycles take similar times?

So your new efficiency washer isn't actually very efficient, at least not time wise? Why doesn't that surprise me. That's too bad, I bet it cost a bundle.

Snarky much?:sad2:

We just got a set of LGs and LOVE them. The normal load takes about 50 mins but the clothes come out so dry that the drying portion only takes about 30 mins. My old set was so old it took ages to do a load, towels could take 2 hours to dry so this is a huge improvement. We have to laugh because we keep saying, "Was that the dryer already? It can't be!"

You must have gotten the exact same washer that i did:lmao:. We got ours two weeks ago and I noticed the same thing, however I think i noticed it more because the new dryer is SOOO Efficient. I mean my husbands pants that he wears to work every day that wear taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes to dry are now done in 35 min. :cool1:. I think that the washer is taking the same time that it used to take but it spins it so dry that the dryer is beating it done and we are stuck waiting on it. Still all in all the Sunday laundry marathon:laundy: is done about 1 hour quicker as I'm no longer waiting on the dryer to finish anymore.

I agree. The wash takes forever but comes out practically dry. The dryer now takes a lot less time.

The "Normal" setting on mine is 43 minutes.

Dryer...about 30 minutes. Unless I have a lot of towels and/or jeans.

Yep my old machine washed in 25 minutes the front load close to an hour. The times on the machine says 41 when you start but that does not include the spinning so it runs an hour.

But yes it drys faster :thumbsup2

What on earth is wrong with you? That wasn't directed at the OP, just the general parade towards better that consumers are forced towards that endlessly fails. More to the point though, what are you the OP's guardian angel? Stalker much?

YIKES.....

Have to agree about the longer wash cycles, but mine has a quick wash on it, that sometimes comes in handy. But overall so glad that I got my new set, my old ones took way longer to dry and to be honest the clothes seem to get cleaner in the front loaders(MY OPINION)...

We got ours right after mother's day, and the normal does that 58 minutes. But it holds more clothing, so I am doing less loads. Mine also come out very dry so the dryer goes quicker.

I am loving them!

:rotfl::rotfl2::thumbsup2

I don't like the new ones much either, as mine takes forever as well. I find I do wash more often due to the fact that it takes forever. So every 2-3 days, I just throw a small load in, and it's just me living here...

What she said!!!! Except, my normal load takes 48 minutes.

normal - 58 minutes
ours is 40 minutes

whites - 75 minutes
we have two cycles
white whites - 60 minutes

Yes we have a HEFL washer.

You are very wrong.

I can do my entire weeks worth of laundry in 4 hours(wash and dry). Can yours do that?

More to the point, why such a rant about washing machines?:rotfl: Both of your posts sound rude and insulting.

And what's with the consumer rant? Have they stopped making all other models of W/D? Don't most consumers understand that the word "efficiency" isn't directed at time but at process?

I posted a few times on a recent thread here on the DIS, where this topic was discussed!!!! Folks, I suggest that you go online and look up the users info for the front loaders that you are considering and get the low-down on the length of cycles.

OP, what brand are yours.

My old Whirlpool Duet 'Sport took a LONG time!

I now have a Bosch, which seems to go quicker.

There are things that were better about the Whirlpool, but boy can I tell the difference in how I can keep up the laundry faster with my new ones.

What I DO like about the Bosch is the full, stainless, drum in both the washer and dryer. All others have it where just the sides of the dryer turn, which creates a problem with 'wear'. My whirlpool dryer was down to the primer where there is constant friction between the fabrics and the stationary front and back panels.

I also like that it is QUIET.

What I don't like about my Bosch.... I don't like the controls. For example, you do not get to choose temperature... the machine uses the pre-set temperatures for the cycle you are using. It has a quick-wash, but I am thinking that this uses only cold water. :confused3

I also don't like that the doors are not as heavy-duty, and have a matte grey finish that is NOT scratch resistant at all.

But they don't fail - they're awesome! I spend SO much less time doing laundry with my HE washer and dryer - I can fit 3 loads in at once, and they come out clean and almost dry. They are well worth the $ I spent on them 5 years ago. I'd never go back.

LMAO...

Really, a washing machine thread already getting snarky , funny stuff!!

My washer seems to take a bit longer to wash, but things come out almost dry. Dryer takes about 30 minutes. I can really tell the difference in my electricity bill.
My clothes also seem to be holding up better which is a plus.
Yes my LG set was expensive, but caught a great sale. With extended warranty and stacking kit it was about 1200.00. Got to love black Friday sales.

I have a quick wash setting on my front loader and only use that setting. Towels and sheets get the full wash though.

All of the clothes come out just fine and even the here or there stains come out.

Drying is awesome, and most of my clothes are out of the dryer in 20 min.

Yes, washing times with a front loader are definitely longer. I have had my for 3 months now and love it even with that fault. I do believe my drying times are shorter. Also, my clothes just "feel" better when they come out of the dryer. I don't know if it's the HE detergent or what but they feel better and I get a lot less lint than I used to with my top loaders. Someone told me that is because it is more gentle on clothing.
