I was just checking the gas prices for the drive down next week and noticed that the most expensive gas we are going to pay happens to be the closest to oil rigs and refineries. Florida by far of all the states on I-75 especially in the disney area is way more expensive than everyone else. The cheapest state happens to be Ohio, which for years used to be the most expensive state for gas. Gas in the "World" and area is still running in the 2.70 range. On I-75 in Ohio gas is at 1.96/gallon. How is this possible? Talk about gouging tourists! If you are driving down check this website first.

www.gasbuddy.com

It will give you all the gas prices for the states and canada plus you can check by county if you know what counties you will be travelling through. Just thought this info would help.

It's called taxes. There's no state income tax in Florida. They get it out of you in other ways.

Check the gas prices that are 5 to 6 miles off the interstate. There usually is a big difference.

I've found the prices of the stations on WDW property to be about the same as home (PA). The stations just outside are really high, like on 535. It's true about Ohio - I was there last week and I saw it as low as $2.14, while in PA it was $2.56 (has gone down since).

It really is called "gouge the tourist". If you get out of the immediate Disney area the gas prices drop big time. The stations at Cross Roads are terribly high, but, drive a mile or so past RTE 536 heading towards Kissimmee and they drop about 20-50 cents per gallon.
IE: The station at Walmart is at 2.53. vs 2.99 at Chevron at I4 and 535.
Moral of this is: drive a little save a lot.
Gas in CT is running about 2.63-2.89. CT has one of the highest taxes on gas in the country.

Man, our local gas is still $2.75 and up...We were at $3.00 about 3 weeks ago. I'm in Syracue NEW YORK...where they tax everything.

I would love to see low $2.00 range.

Good morning everyone. I just registered today for the first time. I've gotten so much information from these boards to help my family and I for our upcoming trip next month.

To Lori-N-NY: I just noticed on my way to work this morning a gas station that has $2.49/gallon. Most gas stations by me are between $2.55 and $2.59 don't know if up-state is following Long Island or not in prices.

If you convert our litres to gallons we are paying here in Peterborough 3.69/gallon and that is down quite a bit from two months ago when we were paying 4.73/gallon. Here in Ontario we pay federal and Provincial income taxes and still pay close to 45% tax on gas. So coming to the USA makes us feel happy to pay 2.50/gallon, but I still hate being hosed anytime!

I agree and I am from NH. I went to the WDW Hess station and it was reasonable, where outside of WDW property it was higher.

I'm an hour south of Syracuse, NY and we are still paying $2.79/gallon. I guess the prices at WDW always seemed low to me compared with what we pay at home.

Gas up in Ga before you go into Florida. The northern part of Florida prices are high and tend to drift down as you go south.

In Idaho, right now our average is around $2.90 and that is down from last week of $2.99. Locally we payabout $2.85, they have said it may go down another 10 to 15 cents, but not much more. For those that are paying the $1.96, send some our way.

I am located in south Louisiana about 30 miles north of the closest oil rigs. In fact, we went fishing a couple of weekends back at some of the rigs that are only 3 miles offshore from the Louisiana coast.

Our gas just dropped to $2.25 per gallon here. The proximity to the oil and refinery does not affect the gas price. We were up to $3.00 per gallon at the peak when oil was around $78 per barrel and I can literally drive 10 minutes and be at a refinery.

Mostly taxes affect the difference....and the difference in refining techniques for different parts of the country as well.

We pay 38.5 cents per gallon tax here in Louisiana.

Gas prices are currently falling all over but for those of you driving down I-75 in the near future:

1) Previous advice to fill up in Georgia is good advice. Gas taxes are far lower in Georgia as they do have a state income tax there. The Valdosta area and Lake Park (the last Georgia exit) have a large number of gasoline choices.

2) In Florida avoid filling up in Lake City (US90) or anywhere in Gainesville. Prices are always 10-20-cents per gallon higher.

3) Currently the Ocala area has the best prices in central Florida....$2.28 or so per gallon. That's cheap compared to Orlando.

4) Yesterday I paid $2.39/gallon at the Turkey Lake Service Plaza on Florida's Turnpike just north of the I-4 interchange. That's cheaper than nearly anywhere around Orlando. Since the Service Plaza's typically have expensive gas, this was a nice surprise!

5) As mentioned, the gas stations just outside WDW (particularly on SR 535 at I-4) are rip-off expensive. If you're from Canada or Europe the prices may appear cheap by your standards but you are being ripped-off! Head further south on SR 535 to just over the Orange-Osceola county line and you'll find Hess, Wal-Mart and Citgo at very good prices. The Hess stations on WDW property also have decent prices although not the best.

I'm a contributer to www.orlandogasprices.com and this is a good place to see reported prices in the area, at a glance.

Thanks for the inside scoop Bob

A few notes...

The Hess station just outside the Magic Kingdom is currently CLOSED. Actually, it doesn't exist anymore... completely torn down. Never fear, they are rebuilding it, and it should be better than ever, and open sometime around November.

That being said, the Hess stations on property (DTD/PI and Studios/Boardwalk areas) historically have had very good prices. As soon as you step off property, prices hike up about 25-50 cents. Those stations, on the 535/Palm Parkway/Crossroads area typically have the highest prices in Orlando.

With the construction going on with the MK stations, the other two open stations haven't been as competitive as they have been in the past, but they still offer convenient non-gouging gas prices.

Other posters are right though... if you go far far from the touristy areas, (aka, the boonies of Mount Dora) prices drop another 10-20 cents.

Hmmm Ohio has natoriously been chaper by 15 cents or so then Michigan. Right now were paying around $2.25 per gallon for unleaded regular, although I usually pick it up around Metro Airport for around $2.10 per gallon or so....

Try the Hess a next to the Walmart on 535 or the gas station at the Walmart. I would bet it is in the $240's today. I wasn't out there.
