For us DDP is a good thing. First, I am the kind of person who worries about $. If I have it paid ahead of time, it makes for a much more relaxing vacation since I am not stressing out over the cost. I am totally the type of person who orders food based as much on cost as I do on personal preference, so I love not having to worry about it. It also keeps me from worrying over the kids' choices.
Second, my kids love sit-down dining. They love going out to eat at home (which we seldom do because of costs). So, to do it every day is a huge treat for them, especially when you throw in some beloved Disney characters or some really cool settings!
Third, We all love to eat! We are all pretty big eaters. But, the 6' 2" 15 year old eats enough for 4 sometimes!
Also, the kids have pretty expensive tastes. While they will eat burgers and chicken nuggets if they have to, the boys would choose seafood and steak any day of the week if given the opportunity.
But, it really depends on who you are. My brother went down last year with his family and it would have been a big waste for them to get the plan. So, they didn't. They ordered from Garden Grocer and ate CS and their delivered food. They did one TS meal for their daughters birtday.
We have been fortunate to have the free dining plan twice. For some, not a huge savings. (If any) For us, heaven.
