We were married at the WL in June. Obviously we love the WL. We stayed there in Sept of 2004 and loved it so much we decided to change all our wedding plans and get married there. But this trip I had a couple of issues with the resort itself. Our wedding was perfect. I had no issues with that. But in speaking to our DFTW coordinator, she suggested I write a letter to the manager of the WL, because they like to know about things that make a guest unhappy.

So, I did. I was not looking for any kind of compensation or refund or free stays next time or anything. I was honestly not looking for a thing.

But someone from the Disney Executive Offices called me on Friday and apologized over and over again and gave us a 25% discount on our resort bill for that week. :earseek:

I was - and still am - in shock!

I can't believe that. It was SO nice of them! I'm calling her back today just to tell her we are so impressed.

Now, that money is definetely going towards our next WDW vacation!

Good for you!

They overcharged her 25%...........

No, no, it wasn't that at all.

We were booked into a standard room, and that is what they put us in the first night. It smelled so bad I couldn't stand it! I asked for Mousekeeping to come up and see what they could do and they came by and sprayed but it didn't do much so we asked to be moved. I was afraid my wedding gown would end up smelling like old sneakers by the end of the week when our wedding was.

I was told by the front desk that they had no other rooms and to check in the morning to see if something opened up. In the morning we called down and was told nothing was available but to check later. We checked after breakfast and they told us that if we packed up our belongings and checked them with bell services we could move to another room later in the day. We were happy to be able to move so we packed up all our things - which was a lot since we had all our wedding clothes - and checked them with bell services. When we came back later that evening we had to unpack again in our new room. At least the new room didn't smell like an old raunchy locker room.

Then we had friends and relatives sending us food gifts and wine to the room. Which was lovely. But the resort did nothing at all to ackowledge we were getting married there.

Our wedding coordinator asked me what the resort did for us and I honestly had to tell her nothing. I wasn't expecting anything but, well, it would have been nice. She was suprised that we didn't at least get an upgrade and a bottle of champagne. So that is when she told me to write to them and mention that is would have been nice.

So, I did.

And that is all I said. That is would have been nice of the WL had send us a little something to make us feel special since we were to be married there that week.

And that is how I got the 25% refund.

:)

Congratulations!

I'm glad you wrote in about your experience--I definitely think your wedding should have been acknowledged--my goodness! I'm glad they compensated you.

Hope your wedding went perfectly! :groom: :bride:

I'm so glad they gave you a 25% refund. It sounds like someone at WL really dropped the ball in not acknowledging your wedding. I agree you should have at least got a bottle of champagne.

Congrats on your wedding! :groom: :bride:

Congratualtions (more on the wedding than on the refund, lol)!
And you guys look just adorable. Glad it all worked out ok. :)

Well, that was nice of them. :) Did you have an Intimate Wedding? You look very happy in the picture! :sunny: :bride: :groom:

I am glad you got compensated. We were there for an early anniversary and we got up graded to courtyard from standard and got 2 diff. kinds of chocolate, and a card signed by Mickey and Minnie.

That's very nice. It makes me wonder why we didn't get anything. Not even a card. Nobody likes me I guess. I'll just go eat worms.

Yes, we did have an Intimate and it was WONDERFUL! I wish we could do it again!

Congrats on your wedding! :cheer2: I'm glad the WL stepped up and offered you a partial refund. I know they usually do acknowledge Disney weddings in some way.

Wow. They certainly went above and beyond. I don't think Disney is required to do anything extra for Disney weddings beyond what was paid for. It seems strange that they offered you a substantial refund for not offering champange or an upgrade. I've read about people with legitimate complaints who receive no compensation whatsoever.

I'm glad you had a wonderful wedding. Seriously, how could they not know you were getting married there?!!?? We are honeymooning there in 3 1/2 weeks and I'm hoping for a congratulations. Then again we'll be wearing the wedding ears so hopefully they'll get the picture.

I am thrilled the OP was compensated, but sometimes these situations open a can of worms in that not everyone is compensated.

I would never expect an upgrade, even for a wedding guest. Many guests are celebrating special events.

To those wondering why you were not upgraded, many times they simply can't move you.

As the OP stated they tried to move them, but no rooms were open. So honestly they could not have upgraded them even if they had wanted to.

While I wouldn't expect the resorts to do something special for every guest celebrating something, it's not unreasonable to give a little extra attention to a guest having a wedding at your hotel.

Disney weddings are expensive, and the OP is a repeat customer at the resort. That's someone you want to take care of to make sure they come back.

That is cool that the OP got compensation...

.... but I'm a little jealous. I got married this year at a State Park Lodge, and they never gave me anything special...even though my whole extended family (including me and my new DH) stayed there for 2 days.....

I wouldn't expect Disney to, either.
