We want to fly from Buffalo August 18 returning September 1. AirTran is currently $155 out and $232 on the return flight. Southwest is $250 and $323 on the same dates!!

Any hope of fares improving or should I just book? Air Canada is currently $700 return from Toronto ...

If you fly out of Rochester you can get $115 each way with 1 stop. Total return $230 vs $387 from Buffalo.

We normally fly out of Detroit but this year, we will be driving. There are only two of us but it is so hard to justify the costs of flights this year (we are looking at around $600/couple with awful flight times and dates) when two years ago, it was $350/couple. There is so much I can do with the extra money! It cost us about $350 total to drive down and back last year (gas and 1 night hotel each way). Plus, we drove for the first time last year and loved having a car with us! So we also save a rental car fee.

I wish I could get 300 seats. I am looking at flying out of Minot since Winnipeg and Regina are a few hundred more and it is still 600 a ticket.

I know we are so lucky to be able to fly out the US. Canadian airline fares are ridiculous and I feel for anyone that has no choice but to use them.

last year seat sale for Jetblue for August came out at the end of June. I had booked mid June with us airways with a stop in Washington because they were much cheaper to find out a few days later that I could have had a direct flight with JB for about $80 cheaper for each of us. I've already booked with JB a few weeks ago and got a decent price but I bet I will be able to reduce it closer to June. Gotta love credits

This is the deal we got too, but it was for Septemeber. One day sale where it was like $89.00 plus 10 or 20% off . It was cheaper than SWA, so we jumped on it and we really enjoyed the flight, Blue Chips and all

I noticed today that the Direct Air 79 deal is back. I did not check the last day to book, but with SWA and JB being way over last years flight (like 205 compared to 89), I'm not sure if even with a sale if it will be like Direct Air, even if you factor in car rental for a family of 4.

DirectAir has a sale on now for $79 one way or $158rt inc taxes. Take carry on luggage so no extra fees. Leave Aug 19 and return Sep 1 from Niagara Falls to Lakeland airport.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately the flight on September 1 leaves before our Fantasy cruise gets back to Port Canaveral. I may look at staying an extra day and flying home on Sunday, September 2 though!

Now to check car rental return options for Lakeland airport ...

Depending on your flight arrival time you may want to check local car rentals offsite as well since they could be quite a bit less. They may even pick you up at the airport or could be worth it to take a short cab ride. Most have a dropoff box for early returns so that's not an issue just call car rental company directly to confirm. The key is that they are open for arrival to pickup vehicle.
