We are going back to DL in Dec. 2007!!! Anyhow, my girls really want to go to "Hollywood." Any suggestions for things to do there (location, etc)? We're planning on El Capitan. Thanks!

X-posted in Southern CA area...

We JUST got back from a trip to Disney/hollywood. My daughter's birthday was on the 31st and we took her there since we were staying in Burbank.

We did Universal for 2 days cuz right now they have a ticket that we paid 49 online for and got a second day free. Good deal when you consider 1 day I think is 61 at the gate. Anyway then we went to the Hollywood and Highland center and toured the Kodak theater which is where they have the Oscars. My little ones weren't that impressed but my teen loved it as did we and it only lasts a half hour so the little ones were cool with it. And of course there is Grauman's chinese where you can check out the stars as well as the walk of fame and we went to El Cap and saw Santa Clause three. They had a holiday show with the characters before the movie and I heard that they usually have some kind of thing before but you might want to call ahead.

We did the VIP seats which got us reserved balcony seats a bucket of popcorn in a souvenier bucket and a soda. They were 24 bucks and if we hadn't gone during a holiday I probably wouldn't have paid that. As it turned out there was hardly anyone there either. So as long as you aren't going during a peak time I would just pay general admission.

Then after the movie the El Cap is connected to the soda fountain where we went and celebrated Katy's birthday. They have a couple of sundaes that come with a limited edition pin if you are into pins and they have some other neat stuff.

There is also the usual tours of stars homes and there are other studios you can tour like NBC, Warner Bros and Paramount. My kids are 6, 7 and 14 and had a good time.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. I have pics too of the El Cap and the soda fountain as well as the Hollywood and Highland area.

Thanks for the great info! My oldest will be turning 10 that week & my third dd will be turning 7. Have you posted pics somewhere? Thanks again!

This is a view of part of hollywood blvd and I think you might be able to see some of the stars on the side walk as well as the El Cap. This is from at the Hollywood and HIghland center.

This is not the greatest pic but it kind of shows you inside the soda fountain

Most of my pics inside are of my dd with her gifts and sudae so you can't really see the background LOL

And lastly this is grauman's of course

I don't know if you have been to universal but I have pics of there as well. Most are of my kids with characters but I think some have background shots. It is pretty neat with lots of old buildings and sets etc.

Oh and Disneyland itself has a little birthday party as well that you can do. It is at the plaza inn on Main street. It is 10 bucks per person and you WOULD need to make reservations in advance. For the 10 bucks you get a hat and a cup of juice in a collectible cup you can keep and each person gets a little cake that you get to decorate. Then Pat E Cake is the host and at the end each birthday kid gets their pic with mickey and minnie. It is fun and there were plenty of older kids too unless your daughter is "too cool" for that stuff ;)

I have pics of that too as well so just let me know if you want to see those or the universal ones.

Dec is a GREAT time to go!

It's nice in some areas...but...others are a real pit in Hollywood! The El Cap would be nice to see a movie. When we were there, my daughter and I wanted to see where Marilyn Monroe is entombed and we found it. There are SO many famous people at the cemetery! It was eerie and fascinating at the same time. Not too far from Hollywood.

I understand you can see the Hollywood sign from the Hollywood/Highland parking structure. Maybe someone can clarify that.

If you're going to see NBC Studio you'll be in the neighborhood of the Disney Studio on Buena Vista St and Riverside Drive. Be sure to look for the Animation Building with the sorcerer's hat.

Yes you can see the hollywood sign from Hollywood and Highland. You just look through one of the openings in the walkways!

If you look in my picture above of the archway with the elephant you can just barely see it in the top through the archway. :)
