I will be in Hollywood the night before my ABD trip begins and was thinking about going to Disneyland that night. How far is it from Hollywood to Disneyland and what is the best way to get there?

Depending on traffic, it's about 1 to 2 hours. I would take the 134 to the 5 south.

I don't live in CA, but we just got back from a two week vacation, put over 800 miles on our rental car exploring the greater LA area. To answer your question, what day of the week and what time of day? It makes a huge difference.

One day during our vacation, we visited Hollywood (walk of fame), and left about 3-4pm. It took us over 2.5 hours to travel the 25-30 miles back to our hotel in Buena Park (which was about 5 miles from DL).

Thank goodness for Google Maps traffic layer, or it would have taken us longer.

we plan on getting their on a Saturday and will not be renting a car. Is it even possible to get to Disneyland? I don't know what kind of transportation systems they have.

I know you can take Amtrak from Hollywood to Anaheim and probably take art from there to DL but idk how often the train runs or how long it'll take.

Your best bet is to take the Metrolink Red line (subway) from the Hollywood and Highland station to Union Station downtown. Then take either Amtrak or the Metrolink Orange County line to go from there to the Anaheim Amtrak station, which is at the Angel stadium in Anaheim. From there you can take ART or a taxi to get to Disneyland; it's only a mile or two.

You can use the Metrolink trip planner to get schedules and fares:

Based on your recent experience piperdown, what day and what time of day would you recommend to visit Hollywood from DL?

I had planned on doing this on a Saturday morning, as I assumed the Mon-Fri traffic could be avoided this way. Although, I'm sure Hollywood is probably more crowded on a Saturday due to tourists. We're there for over a week so we can make it happen just about any day.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Your best bet is to take the Metro Rail Red line (subway) from the Hollywood and Highland station to Union Station downtown. Good advice, but I had to correct you where you confused Metrolink and Metro Rail.

Metro Rail Red Line is the subway from Hollywood to Downtown LA and their website is www.metro.net. The Metro Rail system is confined to only LA County.

Metrolink is the system of longer distance commuter trains which stretches from Ventura County all the way to Orange County. Their website is http://www.metrolinktrains.com/

Is it even possible to get to Disneyland?
I do this often. GrandBob is correct - that’s the route I use; Red Line to Union Station > Metrolink to Anaheim > ART to Disneyland. I use Metrolink rather than Amtrak because it's cheaper - but they don't run as often on Saturdays so Amtrack may be your better option. A taxi from the Anaheim Station is more expensive but might be better than ART.
