Next month I'm going on my first solo trip to WDW. (32 days to be exact, but who's counting?!?) Anyway, I love 50's PTD and originally planned on going there for a meal while at HS, but decided to I might try Hollywood Brown Derby instead. I've been to the 50's PTD before with my family, and they're not fans (meaning future trips we probably won't go) and the prices for most meals at the Brown Derby, we probably will never go there as a family either. I plan on getting the Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake if I go to the Brown Derby, so a relatively cheap "signature" meal.
I primarily changed the ADR from the 50's PTD because, being alone, I thought the servers may pick on me a bit, you know, for entertainment purposes. This is my first solo trip, so I don't know if I'll be in the mood for such a thing. So I guess I have a few questions...
For those who have been to both places, which do you prefer? And why?
Has anyone had an issue with eating alone at the 50's PTD? (Being picked on/ridiculed for being alone?)
Thanks!

Actually - not solo but just with my adult daughter and myself - at 50's PTD we were pretty much ignored - so other than watching the interaction with the families around us it was just a meal.

I would love to go to Brown Derby and have the Cobb salad and cake - but my daughter doesn't find anything that she really likes (for the price) so I'd go there by myself in a heartbeat!

Enjoy whatever you decide!

I love going to the BD solo. A cold beverage, the Cobb salad, and grapefruit cake. I don't even look at the menu anymore. So relaxing... :thumbsup2

I've done both solo.

I wasn't picked on at 50's. I was actually a bit disappointed about that because I wanted to be picked on. I put my elbows on the table, didn't eat my green beans. LOL

Brown Derby was nice but I think I picked the wrong food. I wasn't impressed with the pork chop and I can't even remember what dessert I went with that's how non-exciting it was. I did the Cobb Salad as an appetizer and loved it.
It was peaceful and cool after the heat of the day at the park.

I'm going back again to the Brown Derby next month for lunch and will be trying something else foodwise. I know I want to try the Grapefruit cake for dessert.

Thanks for the help all! After going back and forth, and back and forth, I'm doing the Brown Derby for dinner. Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake. Can't wait! Oh, and a Starring Rolls cupcake for lunch! :rotfl:

I went to the HBD as part of the Fantasmic Dining package. My original plan was to get the cobb salad, but since the package forced me to pay a flat rate regardless of what I ordered, I had the filet but with the cobb salad appetizer. I gotta say that I was sorely disappointed in the cobb salad appetizer. I was shocked since that's what the HBD is known for. I wanted to try the grapefruit cake, but my wife talked me into the creme brulle, which was incredible.

I will be going to the Brown Derby on the 21st of Sept! I hope it's delicious! I am going to try the chicken I think. :)
