Hollywood Studios - best strategy - Slinky Dog and Railway

We are only planning one day and really want to ride both of these. What is your best strategy please?

I would rope drop MRRR then head for SDD after. There is shade in the line, even most of the socially distanced one, for SDD. There is none for MRRR--it is all a maze out on the open plaza to the side of the ride.

During spring break, Slinky Dog had the longer line all day, and Mickey's went fast. Slinky also seems to break down every time I'm there, so I ride it early.

In March we rope dropped SDD and waited til about 6 pm to do MMRR - only about 20 min wait and sun was going down. We still did SDD right close to get in a ride in the dark!

Today, we got into Hs when they opened at 8. We went right to SDD and rode it twice, both times walked right on. After that there was a considerable line. Then went to MMRR and it was a 25 min wait at around 8:45. It is in the sun and it is hot! But manageable for 25 min. I wouldn’t want to wait much longer than that there though. In the evening after 6 the wait was 20 min or less. SDD broke down around 11am and never started up again.

SDD fills us quickly.
We were at HS twice at RD.
Day 1 rode MMRR twice, walk on. By the time we got off, SDD was 60 minutes.
Day 2, rode MMRR at RD. Rode SDD, 35 minutes. BY the time we got off, it was 70 minutes, line outside of Toy Story land. An hour later, the line was only to Woody.
Knowing this, I would ride MMRR once at RD, do Toy Story Mania, then get in line for SDD as the line for SDD builds quickly, then decreases for a time, then grows at official opening and stays.

As others have said, definitely rope drop Slinky then head to MMRR. The SDD line builds very quickly and stays long throughout the day. MMRR takes longer to build a long line and can be ridden pretty easily within the first hour of (unofficial) park opening and also later in the evening.

Would agree with this.
Except we have done SDD many times and never been on MMRR, so we did that first to ride several times walkon.

Wait for the Florida afternoon summer rain to close down SDD. Get in line as soon as it reopens. Also, check out @WDWWait on Twitter. They post daily wait data, including a graph showing what time of day the wait was the shortest. Use that to plan out your day.

We the avg and max wait times as a barometer of should we or shouldn't we wait based on what we're seeing in the MDE app. Keep in mind, Disney posted wait times are very very often over inflated - in some cases as much as 1/4 to 1/2 less of a wait than posted.

Right now you should be able to do every attraction in the park in a day with very little issue. MMRR wait *really* drop off after 3PM. SDDs drop too, but nearly as severely.

HS is uniquely quiet in the evening and if you show up at 2 you could still ride everything. The traditional Rope Drop advice does not apply to DHS right now, the waits between 10-12 are by far the highest all day on every ride.
