Hollywood Hotel Tower of Terror key: It actually unlocks something?

OK, so I'm a newb on the forums here, so this is my first swing at a disney rumor of some sort.

I heard that the little golden key you can buy at the Hollywood Hotel Tower of Terror (among other attractions) actually unlocks something in the park. Though the practicality of it is hardly existent, I still wouldn't put it past Disney to pull a stunt like that. And considering I've heard it from 3 Disney Employees, all from separate rides n stuff (Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, and Pirates, more specifically). Any confirms/denies? Anyone else heard this rumor?? Thank you muchly!

Despite the other comments, it would be cool if they sold something like that, it could open a special hidden feature in the hotel.

The only thing I can find on the internet about this other than this thread is a lot of them for sale on eBay, etc...
