Holiday Wish List

So what photography related items are people looking for this year as gifts? Any suggestions for photography related gifts?

My public wishlist is on the B&H site. It's not really a holiday list. I do most of my camera buying in the spring (bonus season where I work).

Here are a few items that I think make for nice gifts for photographers:
1) Circular Polarizer

2) Flash gels - I like the Honl stuff - gels, strap, and holder. You can save money buy using your own velcro, a bit of glue, and cutting up your own gels.

3) A bubble level (for those without one built in to their camera).

4) Folder holder wires - I love these things. I use pairs of them to hold 16"x20" sheets with 11x14" prints on them. I think they are designed for 4x6 or 5x7 prints.

This year I would be decapitated if I asked for any camera gear!:scared1:

In the last couple of months, I purchased a new body (Pentax K5) w/vertical battery grip, Pentax DA 18-55 AL WR lens (for water rides), Sigma 30 f1.4 lens (for dark rides) and Neutral Density filter (B +W 1.8). We arrive at WDW one week from today and I'm still trying to learn all nuances of the new equipment!

For people who are wondering what to get their budding photographers...I think a good idea for a photography wish list would be a remote release and a tripod since they both go hand in hand. Remote releases are generally not that expensive. A tripod however is one of those things that you can spend a lot or a little for depending on it's features. I have had great luck with my Sunpak 6600PG ( PG = Pistol Grip) tripod which is around 50 dollars. I love the pistol grip feature on this tripod and so far it is holding up to regular use.

As for my photography equipment wish list the luggage handling process destroyed my mono pod during my June trip to WDW so I'm going to need one of those. Since I suffer from shoulder shake I always use a 'pod for prolonged shooting opportunities, like a show or a parade. I absolutely killed it taking pictures of this year's 'Hyperspace Hoopla' at DHS during Star Wars Weekends because I had my camera mounted on my (broken) 'pod ready to shoot immediately. Everyone else was at least a second behind, which was the time it took to raise their cameras and many shots were missed by them because the action was happening rapidly.

I went up to B&H and fondled the merchandise to see what kind of a monopod I should get next. I am considering a Manfrotto 681B 3 section Monopod which supports 26.5 pounds. This should be able to handle all the leaning I put on it without sliding down. To top that off I'll have to get the Manfrotto 496RC2 compact ball head with 200PL-14 QR plate

Next would be the Singh-Ray 77mm (Thin Mount) Vari-ND Variable Neutral Density Filter coming in at a whopping $390.00 dollars. Yeah sure there are cheaper, less capable versions of this type of filter but when I go the cheaper route I always regret it. I'm really working on my photography skills and I have ideas about using this filter so I feel the cost is justified.

Finally, my pie in the sky Christmas wish is to ditch the DX system that I currently shoot with and go to full frame. Right now I'd have to consider robbing banks or other lucrative, life of crime scenarios, to finance this switch. The fact that I would always be on the run from the law would only add to my "travel" photography portfolio, and then there would be the inevitable "life in jail" photographic series that would make me sort of a famous pseudo-celebrity and win me early parole.... but one can only dream so much.

So there you have it. Santa? Are you listening??

I'd love a body upgrade (D5100 looks nice + like I could swing the cost), and to upgrade my slingshot to AW102 (+ tripod holder)--or possibly AW202. As far as lenses go, eventually I'd like some sort of ultrawide/fisheye, possibly a 50mm f/1.8, a zoom with a wider range of focal lengths (18-200), or a faster 18-55 type zoom (f/2.8-ish). Obviously I've been looking more closely at bodies and bags than lenses recently.... But I probably won't get any camera equipment this year (since our main gift to ourselves is our December trip to Disney!).

My holiday wish list would include a new (and upgraded) DSLR body because mine is 3 yrs old, the LCD screen has gone bad and when changing it, a piece broke off that now it would cost me more to get it fixed. I am just going to save up my money to get a new one. The other thing I would put on my wish list would be a new camera bag that looks more like a purse than a camera bag.

I don't need any lenses at this time since right before I left for WDW, I bought a 50-200 lens.

Until I have just about every good EF mount lens (and maybe two of a few of them), I can't imagine ever thinking that "I don't need any lenses". That's almost like saying "I don't need another trip to Disney", "I don't need any more money", or "I've had enough chocolate".

If "at this time" is defined as the next 90 seconds then I'm there with you. Otherwise....

Would like

Sigma 30mm f/1.4

Canon Speedlite 430EX II

Backdrops and and lighting so I can do DD's senior portraits next fall

Sturdy tripod with ballhead mount

Well in a perfect world, Santa would deliver a 600mm F4 APO lens to my Christmas tree. Oh, and a NEX-5N system with optional EVF attachment and 55-210mm lens.

Unfortunately, Santa doesn't usually spring for gifts of that expense on his own - it usually requires a co-funding agreement with relatives to help defray the cost. And I don't have any relatives who would be receptive to Santa's co-funding requests with lenses that cost as much as a compact car.

So I think I'll be lucky to get some new sensor swabs!

Since I am still fairly new to photography, my wish list would be:

Remote shutter release
UWA lens for my Canon T3
A really nice tripod
A weeks vacation to just shoot pics :thumbsup2

Well, unfortunately Santa isn't going to be delivering me any camera equipment this Christmas. I just bought a new car, so the camera is on hold until Spring. My old one still works, I just don't know what my settings are, battery life, and shots left. For right now, it is ok, but it really does get annoying. I just don't have the extra cash right now to put out for a new camera body.

Canon 60d for Christmas and Birthday which is a little more than a week later than xmas.
Maybe someday I can but the ultra wide 10-22. Understanding Exposure by Bryan P would be nice to have as well because I am still a noob at all of this.
