Holiday Tradition

Our family ALWAYS has a traditional bread on Christmas morning. If we bring the bread with us, will room service be willing/able to slice it, toast it and butter it for us?

They don't heat up baby bottles so I would sort of doubt they would do that, but you could always ask....

Since you are now going to be on a cruise for the holiday, maybe start a new tradition of something else to eat on Christmas morning!!! Like Mickey waffles!!!

I would bet that if you take it to the dining room that is opened that morning they will be able to toast it for you and get you some butter.

This is a tough one. A lot of places don't want to handle food that comes in from outside for all sorts of liability issues.

While they may bring a knife to cut it and bring butter, I don't know that they would be willing to toast it. It seems like a minor point, but they are then taking food that they know nothing about and putting it with food that they are preparing for other passengars.

For example, food preperation places have to be very careful with some allergies. Peaple with peanut allergies are very sensitive and some cannot have food that was prepared along with food containing peanuts. They do not know if the bread you are giving them contains peanuts or not and they really can't just take your word for it.

I don't know if they would or not, but I can see why they might not be able to.

I wasn't aware DCL allowed you to bring "opened food" on board. This would include home-made items as well, correct? I know we had considered bringing cookies for the people who work in the Club and Lab but were told that we could only bring packaged cookies on board.

You are right! If it isn't a store bought & packaged item you wont be able to take it on board to begin with.

If it is an important tradition to your family, I'd give DCL a call and see if they have any ideas for transporting. They usually bend over backwards too accomodate. Perhaps after baking, you could use a sealing machine or take to the bakery and have it wrapped and sealed. I believe: where there is a will, there is a way!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the input. I never considered all of the issues. That's why this forum is so great! The bread is a Polish raisin bread my grandmother (my father's mother) would bake and send to us for Christmas and Easter. Both my grandmother and father have passed away and my sister has kept up the tradition.

Since we are leaving on Christmas Eve and will most likely have an early morning flight, we could all share the tradition one day early and not have to worry about it.

We too were going to bring homemade goodies for our wait staff and cabin steward. Guess we'll have to rethink this idea. Does any one have any thoughts about a small holiday gift for crew members? Recent posts mention phone cards are an out dated present.

Great idea about a new Christmas tradition ... although the cruise is a new one for my family! Coming from NJ and NY, a warm holiday seems a little foreign to us.
