Hi

After 12 years of taking Sodium Valproate for Epilepsy, Ds has been weaned off his medicine now for 6 weeks without any effects. :cool1:

Not going on holiday till May next year and will need to get holiday insurance, would you still go through pre-existing medical problems or just get the general insurance?

Just wondered what you would do.

If it were me I'd disclose everything. I don't think you can be too careful with holiday insurance.

yes I'd disclose everything as well. Let the insurance company decide whether it's relevant or not. That way should you need to claim for what ever reason they can't say 'ah but you never told us about.......' Better safe then sorry for a little bit of extra money I think:)

Disclose it. If your son has been medicated for epilepsy for 12 years, then it is a (pretty significant) pre-existing condition. I hope it never does recur, but you do have to understand that he has a far higher chance of needing medical assistance as a result of epilepsy/epilepsy complications than someone who has never been diagnosed or treated with the condition (though I know that the condition can develop suddenly in anyone with no medical history of epilepsy or seizures), and the insurance company need to assess this increased risk when offering you insurance.

Most insurance companies will, having assessed the risk, then offer you the option to purchase additional cover at a premium for pre-existing conditions. Again - absolutely something I would pay a decent amount of money for. The LAST thing you want is for him to have an unexpected episode whilst you are on holiday and you to be landed with the bills for ambulances, medical care, repatriation and medication. Absolutely NOT worth the gamble.

Those who read my posts on here will know that I am...shall we say...thrifty?! :rotfl2: But medical insurance is one thing I would never, ever scrimp on. Good insurance, good trip. ::yes::

As a medical professional, I would agree with the above - full disclosure or you may find yourself saddled with a massive bill. People who moan about NHS prescription charges have no idea of how much things cost when you are paying privately.

Have a great time, and hope your son stays well.
