Well, I won this hotel on PL. Really wanted the Hyatt (of course), but figured this is a 3*, must be all right...Wrong!!!! I looked on tripadviser and there were numerous bad posts, including (I almost gagged when I read this) BEDBUGS!!! It is bad enough that PL patrons are placed in the smoking rooms with the moldy ceilings and rank carpet, but VERMIN!! I have used pl for years and always been, if not elated, okay with the rooms I have received for the price I paid. However, I have two rooms at this place, which with fees are over $120, in total. I do not know what to do. Has anyone else stayed there? Has anyone had pl change their ressie to someplace else? My DH just read an article about these bugs and told me how impossible they are to eradicate and how easy it is to carry them home in your luggage. I am wondering now if I should just rack up the cost as a loss and look for rooms somewhere else.
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

Sharon

I have stayed there twice and once at the Hyatt. I do prefer the Hyatt. I cannot advise you on how to get out other than losing your bid. I did not encounter the bedbug problem during our stays. That can happen anywhere at anytime. Other than losing your money, all I can advise you is to encapsulate your luggage in large garbage bags while you're there.

You can do a search on bedbugs to learn more. They like dark places the thing you want to avoid is bringing them home. People may think I'm crazy but once I heard the garbage bag tip on the radio, I did that on our trip to Vegas last year. When you get home wash your clothes in hot water and keep your luggage outside for at least two days. Of course, this is just a precaution there's no guarantee either way you'll encounter these bugs. :goodvibes

Thanks, Vivianne. I had heard about the garbage bag idea and was planning on doing that, too. If we were keeping the rental car, I would just have everyone keep their bags in the car, but we need to be at the airport at 5 am (so need to check the car in the night before). I am still thinking about contacting pl and see what they say.

If it helps, I booked two rooms through Priceline at the Holiday Inn Select MCO this past January and had a very positive experience. The beds were well above average. But if you know you'll be unable to sleep, you need to express your concern to Priceline. My guess is they'll take the "buyer beware" stand.

I agree with Vivianne. It can happen anywhere, anytime. I think the bedbug Tripadvisor report was made back in August of last year. I've been there since then and it was fine.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, RedRyder. I am going to just bring those bags Vivianne suggested and go for it. I usually just go with the flow and not worry about my room before I go, but I am planning on calling the HI before I go this time. I belong to their club and will ask for them to please give me the two beds, non smoking room I have requested in my Priority profile.

I stayed there a couple of years ago and it was absolutely fine. In fact, they went above and beyond, letting us check in early etc. Room was clean, no mold or bugs. We are use to staying in very nice places and while it wasn't the Ritz, it was your average Holiday Inn. Don't worry, be happy.

I'm glad you've gotten some positive feedback on the HI Select MCO. I really doubt Priceline would do anything for you. Many, many years ago I got a 2* Best Inn in Kissimmee which was a DUMP. I contacted Priceline when I read HORRIBLE reviews on the internet. They refused to do anything for me and told me I'd have to check in and see for myself. It was as bad as everyone said (HUGE cockroaches, dirty, worn) and I contacted Priceline but they still refused to do anything. We ended up checking out and into the 3* Wyndham and I learned never to bid below 3* in Orlando again. I wrote to the head office of the Best Inn when we got home and they wrote back to say the property was no longer even a Best Inn as they'd gotten so many complaints about it. Oh well, you live and you learn!

If it makes you feel any better, last year was our first trip onsite at WDW and, just about the time of our trip, some DISers got back and said they'd had a problem with bedbugs. I did all of my research, knew what to watch out for, knew where to check, etc. and by the time we checked into POR and had dinner, we came back to the room and zonked out immediately. I did wake up in the middle of the night in a panic because I hadn't checked the beds, but I just went back to sleep. Never did manage to check in the 10 nights we were there. :rolleyes1 Fortunately, the room was bedbug free.

I hope everything turns out OK for you.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Select MCO a few months ago. I also bid on Priceline and was hoping for the Hyatt. We stayed at Disney until well after 10PM, so we didn't check in until 11PM. The hotel was fine. The beds were comfy and the room was clean. We went to the business center and printed our boarding passes for Jet Blue. It was self serve. They had a PC and a printer available. There was a Denny's across the street that was open 24 hours. We had an 8AM flight the next morning and we got to the airport at 6:20AM and it was still too early. Again, the room was fine. We did get a king bed but there were only two of us.

Thanks, everyone, for the votes of confidence.

Tinaluis, what should you do to check for bedbugs? I have not read of any steps to take, but would love to know any tips.

TIA

Sharon

I'm surprised that was your experience with Priceline. We arrived last month into Miami very late after flying all day and they had a flood in the hotel we had won. They bussed us to South Beach which took us about half and hour and the hotel was awful. Loud, seedy, shabby security. I wrote Priceline when we got back. They refunded every penny, apoligized profusely, and gave us a bonus cert. for our next Priceline stay. They have always been very good to us. That was our first bad experience and it wasn't the fault of Priceline. Really not the fault of the hotel either. Just bad luck, a flood.

We just stayed there the night before we flew home and had absolutely no problems.
