My wife and I have decided to give ourselves an anniversery present of going back to Disney World in October. We will be going again next year and staying on site, so we decided to stay at a hotel off site since we will not be bringing the kids this time. We were looking at a AAA brocure and it had a package for the Holiday Nikki Bird hotel. Has anyone stayed here and if so how was your stay? Thanks in advance.

Although the name conjures images of a lush tropical resort, it is not. It's an old style Holiday Inn with parking around the perimeter, two stories, exterior entrances, courtyards with pools (3), buildings spread out over large area, garish chrome front entrance, Angel's Restaurant - breakfast buffet with fresh pastries baked on site and breakfast pizza in addition to the usual breakfast fare. It's the first motel west of the "maingate" on 192, very easy driving access to WDW. We've stayed there with kids a couple of times in recent years, thought it to be adequate for a low budget trip. But there is nothing really appealing about it and I would not recommend it for an anniversary trip. Nicer places are around for not much more money.

I agree, this is pretty basic place to stay. We stayes there on a priceline 3 star at 35 dollars a night.
I would create my own package as you go and if you want a really nice place for about 50 dollars try a 4 star on Priceline. Great hotels, just make sure and choose only "Disney Vicinity"...Have fun...Ted

I can't say that I have stayed at Holiday Nikki Bird but I do agree that you would probably have a nicer adult trip on a budget and at a resort using Priceline. Don't just wing it though. If you are not really familiar with priceline and how to use it, check out Bidding for Travel to educate yourself and don't place a bid until you are totally sure of what you are doing. You can get help here and on that web site. You have plenty of time to learn, research and plan before October. We have had beautiful stays at expensive resorts for $$ instead of $$$$$ that other people pay.
Also, in my experience AAA packages are overpriced. You can build your own package even without using priceline and save money like Ted said. I think October is low season so prices should be great anyway.....I would say it seems like a perfect time to go to Disney World.

ohhh, I would be so afraid to bid on Priceline! I would be afraid of what I might get. We already have 2 rooms at the Nikki Bird for 5 nights in May. It's a total of 600.00. I sure would love to get it for half the price, but boy would I be afraid I'd get screwed...if you can cancel you'd be STUCK. I guess I feel this way because I've never done it...can I get some feedback from those who have used it?

Thanks
Vicky

Hi Vicky...YOU CAN DO THIS, thousands of people have and you can get a heck of a deal. Priceline really does work!
But, if you really don't want priceline at least try this link
http://www.luxurydisneyresort.com/kissimmee-area-hotel.html

This is a fabulous condo in Emerald Island with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and less than two rooms at the NIKKI BIRD.
Or try www.vrbo.com and go to Florida then to Disney area and then look under 3-4 bedroom homes or 3-4 bedroom condos in Emerald Island, Windsor Palms or Formosa Gardens. These are spectacular places you would love and the price is right there.
Give it a try and let us know how you do....
Feel free to email us if you want any more specifics......YOU ARE ABOUT TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL DISNEY TRAVELLER GETTING A GREAT DEAL.......TED
