Taking a trip down this August. Would love to hear comments on Holiday Inn Family Suites. We are staying 7 days and my ds will be turning 3 the day we leave. This is our first time down and are a little overwhelmed with to stay on property or not. Help!
Thanks

If you do a search on this board you will find many helpful threads about HIFS!

We were there last summer and will be there again this month. It was a terrific hotel! Very clean, wonderful rooms with lots of space, great pool, and fantastic free activities for the kids!

It is practically on property, only minutes away from the Disney parks!

If you have young children you will really enjoy this resort :)

HIFS has a great reputation here at the DIS!! HIFS is only 1 mile from WDW!! It has fab childrens activies!!

Another thumbs up for HIFS. WE went Dec. '01 and are going again this Oct. You don't say if you are renting a car or not, but I would rec. it. HIFS does have shuttles to the park, but most people would prefer their own schedule, not someone else's. Also, make sure you plan some evenings at the hotel to take advantage of the kids activities. You can get a schedule at check -in.

We are onto a Disney cruise after several days at HIFS, I know laundry is needed (3 kids) is it possible to do at HIFS or are the facililties limited (or crowded)? Heaven knows I don't want to do it on the boat.
Thanks
Barbara

Although DH and I often stay-offsite, I'd recommend you stay on-site, since it will be your first time.:earsboy: :earsgirl:

Also, although we have never stayed at HIFS, on a recent trip, we visited for the seafood buffet, which was very good, BTW, as well as the service.

What we could not help but notice, however, was that the place was over run with children:eek: ... mostly the ill-behaved type:rolleyes: Of course, you can find that experience anywhere, but it was particularly prevalent at HIFS.

Now, that may not be an issue for you, since you have a son of your own. However, if he is well-behaved, and you do not want to deal with alot of other peoples' children on your vacation, then you may want to reconsider.

Then again, the week you go, you may not encounter what I described above at all. The place does seem to be geared more to younger children (those of your son's age). I just thought you should hear the flip side. Several times during our meal, I said to my DH, "Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to stay here." or "Boy, I'm glad we're not staying here.":earseek:

Hi,
We stayed at the HIFS in january and the entire family adored it. I will definately be going back there for my next trip. We had previously stayed onsite at port orleans riverside and although we loved that too- I could not justify paying soooo much extra just to stay onsite! We loved the pool area at the HIFS and they had tons of activities geared just for families but we were so busy with Disney that we didn't attend any of these. Next time I think I would try more down time at the hotel since it offers so much. I do want to add that we had our own car and I would only consider this hotel if you have your own transportation. Coming and going from the parks was a breeze. If you are interested I have a coupon for a free pizza party (one free medium single topping pizza, an order of breadsticks and a 2 litre soft drink your chioce), if you like I can mail it to you- but it's only good through 12/20/03. Enjoy your vacation!

We took our first born to WDW at 6 mths, 11/2, 2 1/2, etc.
WHY? Because he didn't cost any thing and we booked a rooms
closest to the theme park we were going to visit the most.
Our son would fall asleep at the start of the 3pm mainstreet
parade everday in.the umbrella stoller on the side walk next to Emporium.
So plan on your child resticting the movement around all the parks.
We swapped nap time, the adult not napping would visit the Monorail hotels and camcord the rooms of each for future reservations while the other sayed with the child in the room.
Late at night in August after a long day at the parks is tough waiting for a bus, so rent a car keep a cooler with supplies in it during the day, and have the freedom to return to you room a anytime.
If you haven't been before, limit your activities to you and
yours favorite Disney Theme.

Take your time and enjoy!

THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!!
