Holiday Inflatables - Public Service Message

Not sure if this was posted but - you can't keep them inflated for more than eight hours at a time. I know the OP was doing a tongue-in-cheek post, but I thought I'd add that because of overheating, etc on the fan/motor, you can't run them 24/7.

Pictures, please!

We don't have yards here in NYC. I'd love to see what you re talking about. I drove by one house upstate recently, but all the inflatables were were all up and in their glory. :santa:

I live in NYC too, but we have yards in my neighborhood, and many people have them. My children beg me to get one, and all I say is "maybe next year". It is not my taste, I have noticed less and less around, kids go around and slash them or maybe even shoot a BB gun at them, or maybe it is an adult who thinks they are as tacky as I do.

This is true. We don't have a Christmas inflatable, but we do have a Halloween Mickey inflatable. It's probably inflated for 8-12 hours straight when we use it.

I agree that they should be inflated all the time. We always joke about the "dead Santas" or "dead frosty" on the ground

There is a house here in NH that has tons of inflatables. Here's a link to a newspaper article (with photos) from a few years ago. I took the kids to see them last weekend and I am sure that there are more than 100 inflatables now. I am not a big inflatable decoration fan but they do have some really cool ones I have never seen anywhere else.

slightly off-topic....but several of our neighbors have the white deer displays in their front yards...there have been several mornings where someone has placed the deer in a "private position" if you get me drift........

I'm sure it's teens in the neighborhood...but it is funny....until you have to explain to your little kids why the deer is trying to climb on the back of the other one....

We have the Mickey Santa inflatable this year. I've always been very anti-inflatable but the family overruled me this year. We've had a lot of snow and ice in our area lately. So every night when I fire up Mickey, I literally have to go out side and beat him to get all the ice off of him, otherwise the material is too heavy and can't inflate. I'm sure I'm providing mental anguish to every child in the neighborhood everytime I kick Mickey in the stomach and punch him in the nose:rotfl2:

we unplug ours durng the day. Not to offend, but no1 is home during the day and I worry about fire hazards. So....safety before beauty :-)

Can I add if you have no front yard the roof is not the proper place to have one of these things.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Inflatables deflated on the ground, Santa tied to a tree, mechanical reindeer being bad, guys beating the heck (I know it's ice!) out of Mickey...I'm seriously laughing out loud at this thread!!:rotfl: :lmao:

I hate them inflated or not.....I just think they are tacky. But I agree, if you are going to have them then keep them inflated as long as you can (and in good repair).

We deflate ours during the day, I turn it back on at dusk because it's connected to our Christmas lights. We just have a small one because they're really expensive. Our neighbors have a bunch, my kids love them and I think they're fun too.

I have three different Mickey ones, and yes they look like colorful empty trash bags during the day. :thumbsup2 But as others have said, the instructions are clear about not running them for more than 6-8 hours, and I would be one sad Gina if the motors on my Mickeys burned out. :(

I have them on timers that go on at dusk and off 6 hours later. I wish I could keep them going all day, but I'm not willing to risk ruining them!

. Halloween is more fun though, we lean towards the dark side then with an electric chair, stocks a gargyle and many more, and next year a HUGE Castle. I'm working on getting a crematorium that slides the body in and out and looks like flames and smoke and lights. Get chills just thinking about it....lol

Your my hero!!!!!:cheer2:

Same here. I think they're pretty ugly.

There is a house on our street that the people have destroyed and now they are putting it back together. They have boards up on the garage? They have bricked up a window in the front with the wrong color brick? They have dug up all the shrubs? The mail box is on the lawn? A pair of shoes is on the roof? The best part is they have put up inflatables on their lawn? Not sure why they are decorating with the disgusting mess they have for a house but those lovely things during the day lay all over the lawn. The neighbor two doors down decided to put some lights up with a ladder and then must have changed their mind. So the ladder is in front of the house and the lights are hanging down. Why are people slobs!!!! Our neighborhood is nice but there always has to be people that bring it down.

Well, I figure if I have to see people wearing those nasty plastic Crocs on their feet all summer, than you can look at my deflated Christmas decoration for a few hours each day. :lmao:

the other thing I have noticed is that the snow globe types just end up all fogged up and that looks awful as well.

I am not against them so much - we have two small ones. We just bought them end of season last year and have yet to get them out. We will display until DD is older, then we will return to our more tasteful display. Kids love 'em! :santa:

My mom and my uncle live across the street from each other, which is also between two hills, so they get some pretty good gusts that will whip pretty much any outside decoration or furniture around. He has (had?, don't know if he puts it up anymore) a really tall inflatable santa that has his arms outstretched. They had to put a spotlight on him because he got blown around and the light inside broke. Anyways, it kinda freaky looking across the road and seeing a giant looming shadow on the house with his arms waving frantically.
