Hi all:wave2:

Just wanted to seek some clarification if I may please....

I have enough points (with borrowing) to temporarily secure a second reservation for a vacation I've already booked. Both resorts are highly sought after, and if I am lucky enough at my 7 mth window to get the second hotel, I would then immediately release my original booking for someone else to have.

I initially thought that I couldn't do this, but a post from someone recently said that I could put the second reservation in a different lead name. (My mom is travelling with us and is named on our current reservation as the 3rd adult, so if the above info is correct, I guess I could just put her down as the lead name on the new booking & still keep her name on the original).

Just wanted to double check if this info is correct? When my booking date opens I want to try and sort this as quickly as possible - so wondered if this would be the easiest way to give us the best chance of securing the booking:thumbsup2

Ps - we will be visiting the world again later in the same UY, so I'm not worried about borrowing the points and having to use them up in the same year:thumbsup2

Many thanks for any help:)

You can reserve two rooms for same time period. You can be the lead person on each. I have done it on-line.

You may catch grief because some think you shouldn't but my view is that if it's within the rules and you have a reason to do so, they're your points. It would be courteous to cancel when you know what you don't need. IMO it's no different philosophically than reserving a high demand time for rental.

I did this for a day here and there for our trip (that starts today!!!!) and had no issues with my name being the lead on both reservations (made online). I had to call MS about something and the CM noticed it and said I should get rid of one of them because otherwise "the system" may cancel one. Don't know if this ever really happens, though.

I don't understand, if you can book the second DVC now, why not cancel the first, or are you talking only a few minutes to ensure you get the new DVC, like at 7 months?

Thank you :thumbsup2

If the room I'm hoping for is available at the 7 mth mark, I would release my existing reservation straight away - so literally holding the two bookings for a couple of minutes whilst I cancelled the original :thumbsup2

Hopefully no one on here will shout at me for that;)- at least not too much anyway!:goodvibes

I'll be careful to cancel the original immediately - so hopefully avoiding the 'system' doing it for me!:thumbsup2

Have a wonderful trip! :cloud9:

Unfortuately I can't book it yet - I'm looking ahead to the 7mth window and just getting prepared!:thumbsup2. But, yes, will only have the two for a matter of minutes if all works out - if not, I'll be happy where I am. This is my first experience at trying other resorts, as normally just stick to my 'home', so I'm just being extra nervous/cautious!!;)

I have often booked two rooms and put my name on both because we are taking enough people to stay in both rooms and I just want to be able to pick up the keys for both rooms if I arrive first. The rooms have never been cancelled even though they both had me as the lead the entire period.

I assume others do the same. Some may reserve two rooms, both in the member's name, if other family members have not yet clearly committed but they want two rooms when and if that happens.

I assume many do what the poster intends to do, reserve if he can at 7 months out before cancelling the original reservation to assure he is not left without a reservation, a risk if he cancels first and then tries to reserve.

I doubt those who intend to use only one room, and know the total number of people coming with them at the time of reserving, book two rooms.

I just did this with no issues. Found a studio at BLT for a night of a stay we had a 1 bed for. Booked the studio then cancelled the 1 bed. I wanted to make sure the night didn't disappear while I cancelled my other reservation!

Thank you :thumbsup2

There a number of reasons to hold multiple reservations. You don't know how many are going so you don't know if you'll need a larger or smaller unit, you're not sure the week so you might hold both until you know, you may not know if you can even get off or not. The reality is that unless you cancel late enough to put your own points at risk, someone will almost certainly use the unit when it is canceled and made available to others. That it isn't the person who was trying months earlier and couldn't get anything really isn't your responsibility nor a problem to the system in any way.

However, there are effects on the system and such approaches may eventually cause DVC to consider cancelation restrictions mainly as fees. So while it's OK while within the rules, there are also other realities that go with this ability.

You can hold 2 rooms and be the lead on both without worrying that the system will cancel. I have a BCV reservation for New Years and one at VGF for the same dates. I will cancel my BCV one after I close on VGF but I wanted to keep it until then in case something falls through.

I have a similar situation. We have two highly sought after studios for the same 3 nights. We are waiting for a resale to close to make sure the points are available for the more costly room. We have had the two rooms for over a month, and nothing has happened to them. I even made a call to MS and adjusted both on the same phone call and there was no negative feedback.

We've held a 2 bedroom and a 1 bedroom for a couple months at BLT in October. We were hoping we would have friends/family join us so I booked that first, but some things changed which made me think it might just be us so I booked a 1 BR just in case. Held it for a couple months, but then the picture became clearer and it looks like someone will join us in October (just not sure who), so we released the 1 BR. I don't think it's all that bad. If you have the points- they are yours to use. As long as you cancel in good faith when your plans firm up/change (just like with ANY reservation), I think it's fine.

I don't see where it'd be a bad thing for other members... wait lists are (mostly) filled in order placed, right? If you cancel one, that's a bonus waitlist filled that wasn't necessarily expected.

I suppose if someone borrows for a higher level room, due to, say a studio not being available, that would be problematic, but c'est la vie.

I would highly recommend two different lead names if you are on a wait list trying to complete the reservation at difficult to book resort. We have been in the position where a room was cancelled on us. It happened twice. In both cases it was a boardwalk view room. Both sets of transactions occurred without any email coming to us to confirm the changes. I just happened to check the website. Member services was not able to fully fix the situations as the rooms were no longer available. In one of the cases a MS rep was 'cleaning up' my reservations, cancelled my boardwalk view two bedroom and rebooked a garden view one. We were not happy. Since then, if trying to 'build up' a reservation by holding multiple rooms, I use two names. We don't do this often, but for certain trips, I do use this method. It usually is only for a three day booking or so as we like to do split stays.

Although I was really angry in both of the situations, we have had many happy vacations and many good experiences with member services so I just try to forget them and move on.....just bugs me every once in a while!
