Holding points

So I don't know if my parents can go on our new years trip. We are obviously inside the 30 day mark. So I think we are going to try and go in march. Can I waitlist now and if it comes through after the 60 day mark can I use the holding points or do I have to waitlist at the 60 day mark?

If you are wanting to use Holding Account points you cannot get on a waitlist (using those points) until within 60 days. If you have other points that can be used for the waitlist, you can get on the waitlist - but MS may not later be able to reallocate the Holding points for a reservation made using other points.

If you get on the waitlist 60 days before you want to go, then MS would be able to use the Holding Points for the reservation. The key to using the Holding Account is the 60 day limitation.

There have been a few reports of MS allowing Holding Points to be substituted for current points in reservations made before the 60 day period ... and we've also had reports where MS would NOT swap out the Holding Points without cancelling the reservation and taking the chance that the waitlist will grab the reservation.
