Holding account for modifying reservation but not cancelling?

Hi all! I went to modify our 1 bedroom BCV reservation over to a 1 bedroom Bay Lake Tower Standard View. Bay Lake uses 4 less points than Beach Club does. 148 to 144. My hope was to have the 4 remaining points returned to our Aug 2020 use year. Are they still doing this? This is a reservation that has been moved during the closures originally from March to May to June and finally July before the end of our August use year. These are 2018 points. When I made the BCV reservation I needed to borrow about 12 points from Aug 2020. We thought we would switch over to Bay Lake because of Stormalong Bay being closed. When I got to the final modification page it said your reservation uses fewer points and these will go into a holding account. If I were to just cancel the reservation it says cancellation penalties are being waived. Has anyone had any experiences with this recently? With all the issues getting in touch with member services, I'd rather not mess something up and have to be at the mercy of getting them on the phone. If I cancel instead of modify will I have immediate access to the points again? Haha I just want these points used and then I don't have to think about them ever again!

Since those 2018 points are now in a reservation that is not during the closure of the resorts, they are not eligible to be moved,

Now, since you have borrowed points, those might be eligible but only if you have no current UY points in the reservations, Banked and borrowed will always be used first.

Since you are beyond your banking window, any regular points freed up will expire

I had the same situation and just got the email back confirming that the last place they were was not the reservation that had days in it that are closed,

So, I have 15 points I will be losing.

Thank you for your reply! Sorry about the points you are losing! Well, there are other options that are exactly 148 points...Saratoga Springs Preferred or BWV Boardwalk View. We own at BWV and have a week long trip planned in October, which is why I am hesitating to stay there. I think we'll stick with Beach Club for now and if we change we'll go with the 148 point options.
