Holding 2 Year Old?

My youngest dd will be 2 next week. She's a petite little thing, and is good sitting in her stroller. My problem is holding her in line. She'll get antsy after a little while and want to walk around.

I was thinking of getting some kind of hip carrier, nothing huge, just something I could strap on and put her in so my arms don't get tired, and she doesn't wriggle around.

Any suggestions? TIA!

Although I have never used it I have seen the Ultra EZ Hip Carrier sold on OneStepAhead.com recommended here several times. here's a link: Hip Carrier

For our first trip when he was 13 mos, I made a pouch sling for my ds thinking I would need a carrier, but between dh and I and everything there is to do and look at, we actually didn't have too many problems with ds in line. We have been two times since then and I never really needed to use it. You could definitely buy one and bring it along though. That way if you do need it you've got it but if you end up not using it, you could return it.

hth!

Thanks! I was thinking that I might not have to use it, but I'd like to bring one along, just in case. I'm going to check out the one at one step ahead now.

I used this with my DD and it's great. My DD is 5 now but from the time she was about 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 I used this a lot. It's very small so it can easily fit into a backpack or diaper bag. DD was fine being in it especially when she realize her choice was that or standing ;) . I also didn't have any problems with backache or anything like that.

We're using a ring sling with DD who's 15 months but TALL. I can carry her either on my hip or my back, and it fits great into the backpack. :)

I used a New Native baby carrier sling when DS was an infant,
& last year ordered another one from one of the many websites
that make similar slings (just do a search on Baby Slings).
They're rated to 35 lbs., & I think bringing
one would be a great idea, but that's JMHO.
My DS (also 2) is a "big boy" now, but still under 35 lbs.,
& I'm gonna bring my sling anyway - just in case.
It sure would make it easier to hold him if he
wants to sleep on me while we walk around or sit.

This doesn't really help with the question of holding her in line, but one thing I have found helpful with my 19 month old DS is bringing a little snack/treat for the longer lines. I try to mix it up for each ride (e.g. fruit snacks in the Dumbo line, Goldfish at Peter Pan, Graham crackers at Buzz Lightyear) that way he stays interested. I just slip them in my pocket before we get in line and I only offer them if he starts getting too impatient. It eliminates most of the waiting in line break downs.

We like the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder because there is NO weight limit like the other ring type slings. They are tested to over 200 pounds I've been told. I just worry about some of the hip carriers because they rely on buckles or clips to support the baby's weigh thus the low weight limit. We have used our sling to carry our toddlers on our hips lots of times. Actually our first trip to WDW was without a stroller. My husband and I both used slings. Our 3 year old walked a lot but if he got tired Dad could hold him easily, and I had the 14 months old all the time. I also like putting them in the sling when we get on rides. Even though they are sitting on my lap there is comfort in knowing that if the ride stopped quickly or they wiggled they are not falling off the ship as we are gliding over Never Never Land!!!! We got ours at www.slingbaby.com. They give customer support if you need help figuring out how to use it. You can use it on your back too. It's cool!

Debm, I agree about the secure feeling! :goodvibes
Just a heads up that the slings I used do not
have anything like buckles, clips, etc.
They are all fabric, sewn at top & bottom with double seams,
they have nothing extra.
While investigating (fixed typo) the right sling for me,
I found that the 35 lb. weight limit is quite universal,
I'm surprised about the 200 lb. limit on the OSBH.
But, that's good information to know & keep in mind :wave2: .

We put DS (22 months) in a backpack which he absolutely loves. When we get to the front of the ride, we can set the backpack on the seat, and he can see so much better than sitting directly on the seat. Also, we know he won't wiggle free and get hurt. It is great - and when it is naptime, he just falls asleep in the backpack. plus, it is a great workout for mom and dad! :teeth:
