Holdiay activities - how much time to plan?

We're thinking about going a day at the beginning of December. I hear in the past they had the Macy's parade and stuff with the Grinch. How much time should two adulds with no kids plan on spending for these things/skip it?

The Macy's parade is really cool and Grinchmas is too but definitely geared towards the kiddies. The parade is daily and I think Grinchmas is several times a day...you just have to check the park maps to see when the performances will be.
