I've been lurking around here for a long time... You all have some wonderful advice, tips, etc.!!

We decided last minute to do a quick trip 4/4-4/7. I know it will be very crowded so I'd like to stay as close to the park as possible. However, I'm also a bit of a clean freak, and cleanliness and comfortable beds is also important. I will be traveling with my husband and a 5 year old and 4 year old.

When I price out the rooms at both places (both standard double/double rooms) its about $50 more for the room at Hojo. I know that the walk is farther, but I've read some not so great things about bugs at Desert Inn. (*shiver*) On the other hand, it seems that if you get a clean room, the walk can't be beat!

Anyone have any advice on which room to pick? Is a standard room at Hojo worth the $50 extra?

Thank you!

i love hojos but 50bucks
you could save thaty an spend 25 on each kid in the park.

We've never stayed at HoJo's but have heard great reviews. We have stayed at Desert Inn and thought it was great. I'm really freaked out by cleanliness and I was very glad to see that the rooms were very clean. I thoroughly inspected before we took in our luggage and didn't find anything that made me nervous. I did still wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes, but I do that everywhere I go.

It was super to be right next to the crosswalk that enters the park and we'd totally stay there again.

I have stayed at both and for $50 I'd stay @ HoJo ~ it'd have to be a $100 + difference for me to stay @ Desert Inn.

I was having this dilemma myself a few weeks ago. I have reserved a Park-View room at HoJo's and was balking at the price. ($50 more and no breakfast!) I looked into Desert Inn and read a bunch of reviews on it. There were cleanliness issues and problems communicating with staff. The breakfast got mixed reviews. In the end I decided to keep my ressies at HoJo's I've stayed there before and know that it is clean and well kept. Besides with the Microwave and fridge, we should be able to do breakfast on our own anyway.

I don't get this great love for Hojo's. Yes the staff is great, but I almost never have any issues that require staff to be great. I find the hotel sad and very out of date looking. It looks like it is still stuck in the 60's. The room was fine, but no room service and a longer walk are more important to me. Without a deal the price is too much. My neices paid $125.00 each for a room. It is sure not worth that!

We just stayed at the Desert Inn and Suites for 5 nights and we had no problems at all with the hotel. Rooms were clean, beds made daily, fresh towels every day, pool was clean. Now the breakfast was OK (danish, a fruit, toast, cereal), but you can't beat the walk to the park. I would not hesitate to stay at the hotel again.

Thank you everyone for the replies! Overall, I'm feeling better about the choice. I can use that extra $50 in the park on the two kids and I'm really looking forward to the close proximity to the partk. Thank you for all your imput!

I never stay anywhere but Hojos anymore. As far as it looking dated, it's supposed to, what I mean is that their theme is "retro." So it really isn't "old" just "old school"
The big plus for me here is the AWESOME beds but you have to book a deluxe room in order to get the pillowtops beds. The parking is really good here too, and yes the staff is great. But the walk is a bit taxing especially when you're coming back all tired and everything. I've stayed at Desert Inn once and it was dirty and gross. Everyones experience is different though and I could have just had an off stay. If you decide to stay at Desert Inn, I hope you'll love it and everything will work out just fine for you.

Oh, do you have or plan to buy an AP for Disneyland? If you do, Hojo's has great AP rates. I just booked in May for 50% off rack rate with an AP.

Thank you for posting this thread! We currently have ressies at both in October and I'm debating which one to keep. I'm leaning toward DI&S because of the location and it would actually save us money. I'm not really counting on the breakfast for much, but I think the location is what is really selling me. I know the walk from HoJo's wouldn't be bad in the morning, its the walk back at the end of a long day that worries me.

i am also tossed about the those 2 hotels. i know the reviews for hojo are so good but it always comes down to $$ for our family. i could use $50 on something like food for the kids (or wine for mommy!).

for the amount of time you are in your hotel...is it worth an extra $50 for better service!

I have stayed at both. For the $50 difference, I'd stay at DI&S. Hojo's is good, but I didn't really have any issues at DI&S when I stayed there either.

If you can get the entertainment or AP rate at Hojo's that may make a difference in the price.

Personally, I found the DI&S to be kind of icky. I didnt' see any bugs but it seemed pretty grimy to me. For example I stripped the bedspreads off the beds and also wouldn't let my kids walk barefoot or use the bathtub. It was just really bare bones and old and definitely not sparkling clean in my view. The staff were nice though.
