We are getting ready to book our accommodation for our trip next year  .

We will be in Anaheim for 14 days (we are from New Zealand so making the most of what might be our only chance to do disneyland).

We are deciding whether or not to try and get a suite at HOJO for our stay as we are not sure how nice of a holiday it will be if we are all living on top of eachother :headache:

We have 5 adults and 2 children (4yrs and 2yrs) so we will probably have to get 2 rooms no matter what. My thought on the suite was that we have somewhere proper to eat breakfast (otherwise we will probably grab something on the way to the parks so spending money that way), somewhere the girls can be closed off during their naps while the adults can still chat and do whatever. And most of all 2 bathrooms (well 1.5) this is a biggy as we will be sharing a room with my sister.

Or do you think there is enough space in a normal room and try to get 2 rooms that are interconnecting??

Is the extra cost worth it??

do you have ent book? you should get one even on suiets you get some discount just not as grate as 59/74 a night for a room that holds 4 maybe 6

I don't have an ent book, I'd have to get one sent to New Zealand (though I'd probably be doing that anyway so I can get the good rate) I'm guessing the Anaheim one would be our best bet as we could use the vouchers on our trip

check and see they might have one avalibuel for your area would be better. but up to you. um i know alot here have the hojo info like memrized i dont i hope one them come here and give you all the good info

We just left the HoJo today :-(

As a family of 4 that is used to staying in timeshares or places with at least two rooms and full kitchens, we got by OK. (surprisingly so) I was a bit worried, but it worked out fine.

We had one of the upgraded theme park view rooms in building one. They have a surprising amount of room in them. For our convenience we ordered a rollaway for one of the kids (can't have both kids in one bed) and there was plenty of room. (Just a note, I would not get one just for the park view - there are huge trees in the way.) The fridge is great to have, but not huge.

For a few days, I would just go for the regular rooms, but if you will be there for 14 days, I would go for a suite for the extra space and I am guessing they have more of a kitchen area than the regular rooms. (We tried to save money by having cereal, microwave meals and snacks available and found that there was not a lot of prep space or space to do dishes)

Kids LOVED the water play area.

The shop is great, packed full of stuff. Not cheap, but nice to have (Small bottles of milk, like you would get for the kids to drink, were almost $2 each). But it was convenient and open from 7am - 11pm

Overall we had a good experience there (one minor issue, but apart from that, it was a nice hotel).

Easy walk to the parks, but after day 6 my legs were getting rather tired of the journey! LOL!!

Hope that helps.

How exciting! your first trip to Disneyland, and all the way from New Zealand!
I recommend stopping by City Hall, which is right around the corner from the main entrance, under the arch way, and ask for your first visit button, I think that would be fun, any anniversaries? or birthdays? they have a fun button for those occasions as well, I have also seen them for people that have recently married, I was thinking about getting one of those buttons, for myself, next year, although I am not getting married, I just like the idea of people wondering, geese poor thing, she is wearing a just married button, but there appears to be no hubby! ha ha! I just think that would be funny, I could make up a fun story as to why we are not together, man I could have a field day with that! he he!
Sorry, my mind travels, which is more from what I can say for the rest of me! ;) not worried about my mind though, for it always returns! ;) he he
Anyway, if you have not already done so, please click on the second link below, it will tell you about the various types of rooms that the Howard Johnson Hotel provides,as well as other pertinent information. While visiting their web site, you will find other hotel information as well, and can even post questions and concerns, on said site. The manager does read the posts and replies, as well, in a timely fashion, her name is Lorealle, this website, is the hotels information site, not the hotel site itself, that would be this link:

Howard Johnson Hotel Website

The link that was here, is not working for some bizarre reason, so for room information via the Insiders Board, the link below will work too, one just needs to
click on the jump to ( on the right hand bottom of the page) box.

This link will show you the current room availability for the Entertainment Card Rate, this too, is from their Insider Boards

Also from their Insider Boards page:

***** "The Suites are exempt from the Full Discount Rate, but a 15% discount can be taken if the Entertainment Card is presented at check in!*****

The 50% discount is subject to availability and may change without notice.

If the dates that you are looking to stay with us are not listed, you are still entitled to a 15% discount off the best available rate for the room type you are booking. Just give our In-House Reservations a call at 714-776-6120! We'd love to help you book your stay with us! "

Do not call the 800 number for they will not know what is being talked about regarding the Entertainment Card Rate

we had a big family gathering last year and stayed at HOJO's we got 2 of the premium rooms and we had alot of room the rooms are bigger and they have small tables in them and refrig. If you get 2 rooms then you will have 2 bathrooms as well. The rooms are connecting rooms too, so it's like having one huge area!!

Can you get a NZ Entertainment Book? We got the entertainment rate last year using our Australian ent card.

Just a warning about the suite (yep, that's suite -- there is only 1 queen suite on the HoJo property): It books early and is often difficult to come by. For a 14 day stay, I would inquire about its availability right away.

I have photos of the suite from our trip last November if you would like me to post them. It would accommodate 6 because it has 2 queens in one room and a sofa sleeper in another (maybe good for 2 kids, but certainly not for 2 adults).

The fridge is a bit larger, but not full sized. The eating area is nice, and having 2 bathrooms is a luxury for sure.

Good luck with your decision!

We stayed in the King suite at the HoJo. That particular suite .only has the one bathroom, so I remember thinking at the time that it would have been better to just get 2 adjoining rooms for that second bathroom. The kitchen area was not super useful since there was no sink in that area, and when we did eat breakfast, we had to bring the dishes to the bathroom to wash them out.

Pics would be great thank you :)

We aren't at a year out for our trip yet (next month :woohoo: ) Can you book longer than a year out?? I thought (back from my days as a travel agent - pre kids) that a year was the earliest you could book. Though it's been many years so things no doubt have changed .

? for those of you that have stayed at the queen suite: Does the kitchen area have a sink? Can you get any Disney view from either of the balconies? What was the noise level like? I read the suite was right off the elevator area in building 2.

The suite is right off the elevator in Bldg. 2. It's on the 4th floor. No park view from either balcony. I would hear the elevator at times, but it was never so noisy as to bother me. Not like the freeway noise I've experienced in Bldg. 1.

The kitchen does have a sink. It's a really deep, but small sink.

Here are some photos of the queen suite:

Thank you sooooo much for those photos. It looks great :) Definitely looks like plenty of room to live for 2 weeks.

Now to find that thread with the other Hojo rooms in it to compare (unless anyone wants to add pics here for me so I can be lazy :rolleyes1 )
