what do people do that use hoists as in how do you get the hoists to fit under the beds.

this is beginning to become a huge problem for us now so any info we would be really grateful

I started this thread and I hope there is some useful info for you there!

thanks Betty, we found if we hired bed blocks we could get the hoist to fit under the master bed but meant we had to book another 1 bedroom over and above as we had hoped that our DS could have shared a room with his brother (the 2 bedroom having 2 doubles) but the base of the bed there was solid  so the bed blocks were a no no. hence me wondering if we were maybe not thinking this through properley. he is quadrapegic so without the hoist we are stuck

Have you picked out a resorrt you would like to stay at? If you contact the reservations number for special needs desk is Special Reservations Line: (407) 939-7807 - option 1 and then you explain the problem to them. Also did you know you can rent hoyers in Orlando? http://www.caremedicalequipment.com/

I wish you good luck and never give up on a "Magical Trip"

You might try a 2 bedroom at OKW, there seems to be a lot of room under the queen beds in the studio section.

There are some 2 bedroom villas where only the master bedroom/bathroom is handicapped accessible with a roll in shower. In some of those, the second bedroom has the tub with grab bars rather than a roll in shower. If the second bedroom (the part with 2 doubles) didn't also have a roll in shower, the beds in that room might not be accessible.

I agree with Chuck about OKW.
We have been in 2 bedroom villas at OKW where both the master bedroom and the other bedroom had roll in showers. But, even in the OKW rooms that don't have roll in showers, they still have beds with frames, not solid platforms.
Special Reservations should be able to help you with your dilemma.

thanks everyone I will speak to them when I phone next week to book our trip for next year. our home resort is SSR and like you describe Sue the second bedroom has the 'normal' bath tub and shower over the bath, only the master has the accessable shower.
