Hi all! I've posted on one of the other boards, but should really say hello to the rest of the UK on here... ;)

I live about an hour north of Glasgow, Scotland.

My name is Vaila, and I'm a Disney World addict... :rotfl:

I've been to WDW three times, Sept 01, Sept 03, Sept 05 (yes my first day in the parks was 9/11!!). Getting divorced, moving house twice, and various other little annoyances of life have got in the way of me getting back to WDW, until now.

I've just booked to head back to WDW in April 2010, with my new man and his two boys, who'll be 12 and 8 by then, and none of them have been before!

Having not been in WDW when it's busy, or with 2 kids, I hope I enjoy it as much as the other times I've been....

Cheers for now!
Vaila

Hi there

Welcome to the source of all things Disney.

One quick macabre question, if I may. How did the news break on 9/11?

Steve

Welcome to the disboard.I love this site !!
We have been at easter & yes its busy but the weather is lovely & your in Disney, so you adapt to the crowds & go early mornings & have break lunch times & if your staying in Disney take advantage of the magic hours. No matter what i am sure you will enjoy.

Thanks Steve!

We were in MK, and had absolutely no idea anything had happened until about lunchtime. The cast members were looking rather upset, unhappy, scared, and not like I've now come to know them now. They then shut MK (and the other parks) at lunchtime (we heard rumours of a bomb scare), and put on huge numbers of buses to take you back to your hotel (All Stars for us). We overheard the bus driver talking about a building collapse with one of the other passengers, and thought it had been something in the parks. It wasn't until we got to the hotel and turned the TV on that the full horror hit us... We didn't move from our hotel room for the rest of the day, and could hear and see Military helicopters moving around (one of the pilots had allegedly been trained in Florida).

All very un-Disney like...

We also had a tropical storm in that holiday, but still went back another twice... ;)

One question for all of you guys now...
Should I be scared to take 2 kids at a busy time of year???

V

Thats sounds awful, I know its a thing you remember seeing unfold forever, but to be somewhere as joyous as Disney must have been quite bizarre.

Anyway, as I said welcome, this is truely one of the few decent websites around, with some real reliable sources of information.

As for taking kids during the busy time, it is something they will look back upon forever. Our girls (we know have boy too) were called out into the parade in Easter 02 and I got it all on film, I cannot watch it, even now, seven years later without welling up and it has gone by so quickly, so take them whenever you can.

I dont think you should be scared at all. If you use the fastpasses right you can avoid huge queues go early and get to ride what you want before the rides. When ive been with my parents we always went fourth of july period disney's busiest time and always loved it I don't think at their ages they will find it a problem and it won't be as hot as in July/Aug/Sep so shouldn't take it out of them as much.

Thanks guys, my mind is a little more at rest now...

We plan to get an itinerary / plan from the experts (Simon and Susan Veness!) nearer the time. That should help avoid the worst of the queues.

337 days to go, and I can't wait... :thumbsup2

Hi Vaila - Welcome to the DISneyholics Anonymous.

You'll have a blast. Going to WDW with kids is even more exciting than going without them.

Hi Vaila! :wave2:

If you thought you were addicted before then wait till DIS fever sets in!!!

I swear by their itinerary :worship::thumbsup2 It certainly does get you on all the rides too - and get the most out of your holiday, and is tailor made for your party and age groups.

Ive just ordered mine ready for July, and it's so exciting when you get it, seeing on paper what your going to do.

Hi Vaila! :wave2:

Do you know where you'd like to stay yet?

Thanks to everyone for such a lovely welcome! :goodvibes

We are going on 2/4/10 for 2 weeks, with Virgin (no customer service issues yet...) and staying in Disney's Pop Century. I've stayed in All Star Movies and Music before, as well as once off site on International Drive.

Is Pop Century as good as the All Stars? I know they are budget hotels, and you get what you pay for, but with 4 of us going it's the best we can do to stay on site!

I've not stayed at either, but form what I've heard people seem to perfer pop to the All Stars so you should like it!!

Welcome to DISboards Vaila :welcome:
You have found the perfect place for a DISney addict.:thumbsup2
Enjoy your planning.

Welcome Vaila

If you are looking for unbiased, knowledgable and informative advice then this is by far the best place.
I was a member of another florida forum for a couple of years but became disillusioned by the 'clique' group of older members on there who, in any other walk of life, would have been seen for what they were - a group of small minded, biased bullies.
Then I was sent a link to this site by Dizneemad and my faith was restored.
I gained more information in 2 months than I got in 2 years on the other forum, and heaven only knows how much money I have saved in the process.
Enjoy planning your holiday. And remember when you go to take a LGMH :thumbsup2

Welcome Vaila
And remember when you go to take a LGMH :thumbsup2

Thanks again for the welcome! Hopefully I can add to that unbiased help too, although it is nearly 4 years since I was last there...

I've looked at the abbreviations list... but LGMH? Is it so obvious I'm not getting it? :)

Its obvious "Lime Green Mickey Head".......... (I Googled it :rotfl2:)

Sorry - I only learnt that one the other day myself so should have known better.
As I understand it - and if I am wrong someone please correct me here - it's a way of making yourself known to other Dissers.

You are correct Kenny and as I have been on here 6 years I should have known but I can't think I have ever seen it abbreviated. Will know in future.:thumbsup2
I have one at top of webpage I made for our cruise here

Also some used on our cabin doors on a couple of cruises.
