Hit it like you mean it

I am totally useless at work. Disinterested to the nth degree. The only thoughts that permeate my consciousness are DISNEY! DISNEY! UNIVERSAL! sleep DISNEY!!!!!

The Wife is officially off for the Summer, as school has let out 'round these parts. She's graciously offered to watch Disney movies all day while doing some preparations like laundry while I sit at work pretending to be engaged in something productive (Like the DIS... the DIS is productive, right?).

Recent updates and/or things of note:

After much deliberation, the path to paradise has changed. We have rerouted around Interstate 75 since the wildfires seem to rage on without care to my Disney vacation. I find this reprehensible since the world should start and stop based on my Disney plans. Seriously. Anyway, we now have to drive to Savannah to meet Interstate 95. Savannah is nice and all, but it's kinda out of the way when you are trying to get to Orlando from Athens, GA.

The other option that was considered was taking I-75 to Valdosta and following the re-route the Florida DOT was suggesting (basically over to Tallahassee). The downside here is that everyone else driving in the same direction would also be re-routed to the same roads. These roads, not being interstates, wouldn't be able to digest the surge of traffic and would add much angst to the driving part of the trip. In comparison, it's interstate all the way from Macon to Orlando if you mosey over to I-95 at Savannah. I guesstimate that it'll be a tad bit shorter going the way we are going, if only because we avoid the heavier traffic on the highways.

Now that I've bored you to tears...

We made our preparation-trip to the store last night. It's always good to start an adventure with an adventure, right?

I nearly lost the will to live while The Wife was trying to find new socks. We were in search of no-show socks that came up high enough to cover the entire heel... which would basically mean that we wanted no-show socks that "showed" for lack of a better term. This drove me to the brink of madness. Then, almost like manna from heaven, there they are. No-shows that look as if they would cover the heel, while still being no-shows. But... they seem too thick. The heel and the toe have extra padding, and this... this is no good. They just won't work, because they may make the shoes too tight. We deliberate, and by we I mean The Wife, for about five minutes or so before ultimately making a decision to purchase the no-shows that might not cover the entire heel.

Something else that troubled me: Is there a shortage of SPF 15 sunscreen everywhere or just in Athens? I take my sunscreen seriously, but I want to let a little sun through, you know? We went to a variety of stores, and SPF 30 seems to be the rage. It's all you could freakin' find. We found like 4 little bottles of Coppertone Sport SPF 15, and we thought we hit the mother lode. In addition to the recent trend toward SPF 30, the continuous spray stuff is everywhere. I tried it last year and had pretty good results, but it leaves a sticky layer of something on you, and this does not please The Wife. Plus, you use up the bottle fairly rapidly, and it reminds me of hairspray. It's like three whammies right there.

Anyway, I can't promise that I'll be back before our trip, but I wouldn't bet against it either. See you 'round.
