I think I am going to go with a historical fiction theme this Christmas for gifts for my siblings. Can anyone recommend good historical fiction dealing with Egypt, Greece, or America (some time between Independence and The Civil War).

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me. :D

I've never read them myself, but my wife loves the North South trilogy and the Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes.

John Jakes is one of my all-time favorite authors too! If you don't want to go into the series, he has a book called California Gold that is very good.

I agree about J. Jakes but there is an author who has a whole series about Egypt but for the life of me I cannot remeber her name(in old age the nouns go first). Anyway, just go to any book store and describe what you are looking for and they will be able to point the way. She publishes these books on a pretty regular basis at least one per year. Of course if anyone can tell me her name it will save me going crazy trying to think of it all day!!

Colleen Mc-somebody has a series about Romans. I think the first one is "The Grass Crown."

Kenneth Robert's series starting with Arundle. I am also like historical novels about Hawaii. I just finished reading Ka'a'awa by A.O. Bushnell. I loved it.
