Historical AP Blackout Dates

Hello!

I'm trying to determine if purchasing an AP is in my best interests. I'm going to be making 2 trips to WDW, one in Jan. 2011 and one in Feb. 2011. The January trip is for marathon weekend, so the 6th -11th, the Feb. is for Princess weekend, so the 25th - March 1st. I would normally go in the parks 3 days total, one day in Jan. and 2 in Feb. I want to stay at the WL in Jan, and Pop in Feb.

I believe the usual AP discount is about 40%, so if that's available it makes it worth it from the Jan. stay alone -- but if the time is blacked out, I'm better off with my AAA and buying individual day tickets. My dh asked me to "show him the numbers" to justify the AP -- which I'd like to do, and I can, but I don't know if the numbers I'm using are realistic since I understand there are AP rate blackout dates, and if I've hit them with my stay, it's a moot point.

So, after that long explanation -- I'm wondering what the usual AP rate (for renting resort rooms) blackout dates are for Jan and Feb?

TIA!

There aren't AP blackout dates for regular APs at Disney World. They can be used 365 for park entry. Are you talking about a Florida resident seasonal pass?

No, I mean a regular AP -- I also realize I should have been clearer -- I mean blackout dates for booking a resort at the AP rate. I had read in another thread that there are blackout dates for this -- I'd be happy to realize it's incorrect!

Ah....you are asking about the hotel discount for AP holders....got it. Sorry for misunderstanding. :)

I haven't traveled during Jan/Feb since we have been AP holders but from other patterns I have noticed the only time that an AP discount doesn't seem to be available is during a holiday rate period when they usually don't offer any type of discount.

I hope someone can answer you specifically about January and February. Not sure about President's Week. I don't believe there is any black out dates then but I am not 100% positive.

Thanks for responding -- I am a little nervous about President's Week -- the Princess was originally in March and they moved it to this week, which means higher airfare and everything else...not exactly thrilled, but if I can save more on the room, that would be some compensation...

There aren't too many blackout dates. Last year I used mine during the first part of Thanksgiving week.

Thanks, rie's mom! I'm just afraid with President's Week and Marathon weekend, I might be hitting blackout dates all around...

I'm hoping someone who has gone during that time with an AP and booked onsite with the discount will respond...I may try posting on the WISH thread, there are probably some runners who did marathon weekend last year who might know about the Jan dates.

Just for comparison sake, you may want to price out a marathon package and a princess half marathon package.
I think there are packages for both races.

Thanks, I will give it a look. The Princess value hotels are the All-Stars, but I will look into it. My dh will be with me for the WDW Half, and he is not interested in entering the Parks. I would have to get a ticket for both of us with the package, so that one is definitely out.

Of course, he just said to me we could save a lot more if we stayed at POR for marathon weekend, so I may have to give up my dream of WL anyway. If I'm staying at a moderate, the savings are definitely not enough to justify the AP, more's the pity...
