Thanks, He really is a gentle, kind soul but he had totally attached himself to me. He sleeps in my room. Last night DH wasn't home and he slept on the bed. DS 25 came in the room this morning to tell me something when I was still asleep. I heard a low warning growl. That's fine. DH travels, I am not good about locking all of my doors, (I keep the french door to the deck open a lot at night). He came from a home of nine dogs and a set of twins. Mom is a vet and a breeder. She loves her dogs but a sane number for her is 5 to 7 since they live in the house with her. Jude has never been the alpha dog, lives with mom and grandmom as well as other dogs of course, so he is loving the attention. He was born and raised with a doggie door so he has to learn to ask to go out. He peed once in the house and pooped upstairs once. I showed him that I wasn't happy. DS18 says that he gets anxious when I am not home. I could crate him because he is familiar with a crate. She feeds him in a crate lying down for bloat precautions; eat, rest one hour than drink) because it is hard to do those precautions with so many other dogs. With just him I can pick up the water, put down the food, etc. Today I had two appointments so I barracaded him in half of the kitchen with chairs. It took two minutes. He was fine, no accidents, was able to look out of the window, etc. I think I will stick to that for a while and consider crating as plan B. Also, I can let him have the run of the yard as long as I am outside. He doesn't know the bounderies yet but has excellent recall. He will stop chasing a squirrel or a rabbit if I say, "Jude, Come". I have an invisible fence installed so I could train him to that. My thinking is that he is adjusting to a new house, he is 8, shocking him would be traumatizing when he is so new. If I can keep him off of the fence since he has such good recall, I just may. If he were 2 or 3, I would feel a bit different. Any thoughts? Any thoughts on any of my concerns. Also, he is very smart. Annie was very smart. Annie remembered the names of dogs that she was in puppie school with 8 years before. The boys would like me to change his name to Jack from Jude. I think "Jude" is really who he thinks of himself as. Any opinions on that?
