Hi Podcast DISers,
I am asking for all of your opinions/help!
I have my Bachelor's in elementary education, an IL teaching certificate and no teaching job in Illinois.... :( Illinois is not hiring and I don't see it hiring for the 2012-2013 school year either. I am currently working for a childrens book distributor doing data entry.
I did apply for my Florida teaching certificate and was approved.
Does anyone know of any hiring happening in the Orlando area? I would love to teach at an elementary school in the Orlando area, but am not limited to that.
I can move this summer after June 16.

Any leads or advice anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. I would LOVE to work for Disney and have my application in at disneycareers.com, but haven't heard anything...

Thanks in advance for any information. :goodvibes

I realize this isn't the place to post this, but I felt comfortable posting here.
hope it is okay!
thanks!

You're just doing what all the "how to get a job" experts say to do. You're using networking with all your Dis friends to help with a job search. I don't see anything wrong with that. And I hope your search for work is successful, whether you find a job in Orlando or somewhere else. Good Luck and lots of pixie dust for you!!!!!pixiedust:

Best of luck to you. Jobs are slim here where I live.

I live in New York, but around here all the schools in Buffalo post their listings on one site, all the schools for Rochester post on another site. Look for that down in Florida. Also try craigslist (they also have a jobs section). I thought people were NUTS when they told me to keep tabs on Craigslist but I discovered multiple listings for my area that weren't posted elsewhere because it is free to post. Good luck on your search!

I am not sure how much it's used in Florida but the best way to find out about school jobs in Vermont is through www.schoolspring.com
Also, since you have a bachelors degree would it be worthwhile to become a full-time substitute? That would be a great way to get your foot in the door somewhere.
Good luck!

Unfortunately, teaching positions open up in different states in droves. I know in NJ, there are very few positions available. I would simply start sending resumes to schools in the areas you are interested in and see what happens. You never know. Good luck! :teacher:

I'm relocating from NYC to Sarasota, FL in.... about two weeks :cheer2: and have been doing the same kind of job hunt thing.

I have my masters in middle school ELA and put in my application for FL certification.

I've had some luck looking through craigslist and careerbuilder. However I recently happened on a great site that has many FL school openings: http://www.teachers-teachers.com/

I agree with Nikki though - start sending out resumes to places that interest you!

Wow! I appreciate all of your feedback!
I have a cousin who teaches in Seminole County who is giving me advice.
I'm just feeling anxious. I wish I could afford to move to Orlando without a job lined up.
Thanks for the advice! :goodvibes

Definetly check the surrounding counties Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Volusia. I work with Fla charter schools and that should be another avenue you should explore. They are booming here in Florida. I will Send you a PM and I will send you some names of management companies where you can explore that avenue.
