hiring/buying walkie talkies?

Hi,

where is the best place to hire or buy walkie talkies and how much would this cost? There is 7 of us going and we all want to do our own thing when in the parks. Do these work okay? We dont have mobiles that would work out there.

Were going over in September, i've never been before but my family have. We have been looking on the Wal-mart website to see how much they cost and they are very reasonable. I can imagine it would be cheaper to but a couple of sets rather than hire them Have a look on the site. www.walmart.com:bounce:

I'll second the Walmart idea. We were there last summer and I was in Walmart looking at a 2-pack of tiny Motorolas for $25, but decided not to bother. As usual, the more you pay the better the unit, but if I remember right the most expensive was only about $70 for a 2-pack. I looked around the web before we went to Orlando and Walmart did seem to be the cheapest.

make sure you by them with sub channels. that is when you select your main channel there is also another 16 subchannels to pick from.if you dont there will be a lot of other people trying to use the same channel.
i have used these in the parks just be patient with them because the other person maybe on a ride or in a show.

I think I'm right in saying Disney used to hire these out from the resort hotels. Quite useful when there's a large party who will inevitably split up.

We purchased walkie talkies in WAlmart & they have been worth every penny. Sub channels are essential - even with 25 we managed to find another family!

Is it still correct UK W/Talkies are illeagal to use in USA and USA's illeagal in UK? Don't know how anyone would pick it up unless UK frequencies are near to a US freq.
We could have saved a few pounds but decided being in UK 46 weeks a year and Florida only 6 weeks we would get UK Frequency.

Another vote for Walmart - we bought our 2 sets - between 2 families in 2000 and have used them every year since and they work great.

The walkie talkies are illegal in this country they are only legal in USA and vice versa - UK walkie talkies are illegal in USA

wayneg, UK walkie talkies run on a frequency that the US emergency services use & vice versa. I've no idea what would happen if you used them, but for what they cost IMHO it's not worth the risk, especially if you are going to be a frequent visitor.

Where have you heard this info? I was told by US dealer in W/talkies our frequencies were unused in US. Only used them once anyway couldn't be bothered with them decided to use text on our phones which was suprisingly quick.
