I will be going to DW in a few months staying at the Port Orleans Riverside. I will be using a scooter for the first time on a trip. Are there any hints/tips when staying here? Room location... I have heard to ask for a room closest to the first bus stop. Is this actually helpful? Any other room location tips? What about room on ground level? Are there elevators? easy to use with a scooter? I can also walk around independently, the scooter is mainly for long days in the park when arthritis gets the best of me. Anything else I should know?

Elevators in the Mansions section, not in Alligator Bayou (which is where the first bus stop is.)

Only tip: practice!

This is my advice. I use my own ECV, and don’t walk. If the building has an elevator, I prefer the top floor. I think it’s quieter because there is no one on top of you and you don’t have as many people walking in front of your room.

If you plan on taking your ECV to the park, there really isn’t a need to be close to the bus stop. We always have a rental car because I don’t like the buses, so take my bus answe with a grain of salt.

If you aren’t use to renting an ECV, you may want to go to your supermarket or big box store to practice. Go at a busy time because what is the hardest part for most people new to ECVs are the people around you. They aren’t looking for you, so they tend to walk out in front of you, or into you.

Don’t use bus stop number 1 with an ECV. It will be difficult to find an available handicapped accessible spot for your scooter, especially in the mornings.

Unless the bus route has changed in the last year, stop number 1 is the last stop the bus makes. There is always one or possibly 2 ECVs on the bus by the time the bus reaches its last stop (which officially is label bus stop #1).

It sounds confusing, just remember, try not to wait at bus stop #1 with a wheelchair or ECV.

The Alligator Bayou rooms have no elevators.
So half those rooms are accessed by stairs.
Did you book one of the rooms with the 5th sleeping surface?
If so I would call in and request first floor for medical reasons.
