Hilton or Doubletree?

My family and I are taking our very 1st trip to WDW and all the Disney resorts we wanted to stay at our booked or are WAY out of our price range. With my husband being a Hilton Diamond member, we figure this was our best second plan of action. The question now is, which hotel is better? The Hilton or the Doubletree? I have been online reading TONS of reviews, and like all reviews, there are both bad and good and really pictures are hard to paint you a picture. Has anyone stayed at either and could give a good recommendation to which would be best? We will be visiting the parks beginning Nov 27-Dec 6. There will be 4 adults and 2 children. (2 adults being us parents and the other 2 being the inlaws) Granted we will most likely not be staying in the room other than to sleep, but the sleeping arrangments are my main question. If we stay at the Hilton we would be getting a 2 bed junior suite. My question is I do not think the rooms are divided like they are in the Doubletree, but the overall Hilton seems to be nice and would accomdate late night food runs, etc.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

We stayed at the Hilton in Downtown Disney last November. We had a regular double room for 2 adults and 1 child. We were fine on space, of course, like you said, we were only in the room to sleep. The hotel was nice and clean and we had no problem with using their buses to get us to and from the parks. They do have a "snack bar" that is open late and we booked our room with the Bed & Breakfast package, so we had a free breakfast buffet every morning. Also, it is a very short walk (right across the street) to Downtown Disney. Enjoy your trip!

I've stayed at the Double tree several times and really like it. A bug plus for the Doubletree is the fridge /microwave and 2 tvs per suite. All rooms are suites so you may save money getting two suites.

The Hilton has EMH and is just across the street from DTD so if this is important stay here.

We stayed at the DTD Hilton in early Dec 2006 for the MVMCP and the hotel was good, the beds nice, the views great but the pool was very cold and that was a huge disapointment for my kids who were 6 and 8 at the time. I know that there was another pool they were resurfacing so perhaps it is heated but the large main pool wasn't. Just my 2 cents...

We just got back from the Doubletree and I was not impressed. The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, so the ceiling and wallpaper had mold growing on it. The room smelled musty. The resort looks like it needs a complete overhaul. I would stay at the Hilton.

I was at the Hilton for a conference a couple years ago. I had a king room up on the 8th floor with a view toward the rest of the downtown disney hotels. Room was great, service was great. Walking to downtown disney was great, spent many nights at raglan road. Extra Magic Hours eligible though we didn't take advantage of that.

Two real drawbacks - their provided transportation (the same for all the downtown disney hotels) was not great. Picks up at specific times and if you miss it, you have to wait. The disney transit marketplace stop is within walking distance, so you can take that to other resorts (not parks).

Driving from there can be a pain - Buena Vista Drive is the road that takes you to the rest of the WDW complex has a lot of traffic lights, but really isn't too bad.

Would I stay there again? Absolutely, especially if it was a better deal than what disney was offering.

I have stayed at both hotels and I like both of them. I just stayed at the Hilton over the weekend, if you are going to have a car with you, you do pay $10.00 a day for parking. Not sure if being a Diamond member would get those fees waved, Silver memebership did not get it waved for me. So you might want to take that into consideration.

We stayed at DTD Hilton in April. My husband is a diamond member as well. You do still have to pay for parking, however, you will have access to the executive lounge for continental breakfast and evening snacks. The lounge was great because breakfast at the restaurant can be pretty pricey. :flower3:

I've stayed at both hotels, however at the Hilton I stayed in a regular room. I did meet a family while at the Hilton that was staying in the junior suite. There were five people in their party. The mother felt it was enough space for everyone. This was actually their second time staying in a suite.

At Doubletree the suites are very spacious. I liked having two separate rooms (being an early riser). The suite had a fridge, which were very useful for storing and freezing juices for the parks, and a microwave.

I would recommend the Doubletree if space is a big consideration. If not, I felt the Hilton was a nicer property and you got EMH. :banana:The grounds were beautiful, they had two pools and two hot tubs and I liked the 24 hr convenience store.
