We stayed at one near Universal last year. The room we were in was nice. There were two queen beds and a sleeper sofa along with the kitchen area. The bathroom was in the bedroom so people sleeping on the sleeper sofa would have to walk through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. The room was fairly clean.
The breakfast was pretty good as well. They had all the traditional stuff and it varied a little each morning. One morning there was make your own waffles, another morning was biscuits and gravy. They always had lots of cereal, yoplait yogurt, english muffins, bagels, pastries, fruit, oatmeal a juice dispenser, coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc. The serving area was clean and the food was nothing to complain about.
The one issue we had was that in our particular location we were woken up twice by sirens and police cars parked right outside our first floor window. I approached the crime scene officer and asked him what happened and he said some cars were being broken into in the parking lot. Again, this is to be expected in Orlando, but we would have liked to be informed of the situation by the hotel. It would have been nice to see some more security patrolling too. We never saw any security even after the incident. We were coming back to the hotel late at night from the theme parks and the parking lot was deserted of people on both nights. We used a side entrance which was not well lit, so it wasn't surprising that the break-ins occurred in that area. The door also had a key card lock which was quite loose and could have easily been averted.
This was the hotel called Homewood Suites Nearest Universal. Overall, the hotel was pretty good. We don't fault them for the car break ins, just would have liked to be notified and have them increase security. It wasn't a hotel or area that we were worried about for safety reasons. That could have happened anywhere.
