We have never stayed at our home resort and are trying to figure out the best time to visit. We have a DD in school and felt maybe spring break would be nice or maybe an old fashioned beach 4th of July??. Is there a busy season there? I know hurricane season in the winter so thats out for sure, but is summer too hot and sticky?? I am too use to the nice Southern California weather.

Yep, it's pretty hot and sticky during the summer. However, visits to the beach and the pools help ameliorate that problem. July 4th will be busy season, and I suspect spring break might be, as well. We went the first weekin June--before some school systems let out--and truly enjoyed HH. It was early enough that the crowds weren't overwhelming, yet the summer hours, tours, and activities had largely kicked into high gear. There is no getting around the heat if you travel during the summer, but you're on vacation and can cool off in the pools, the ocean, or just relaxing in your room. One word of advice--get an upstairs suite if you can. The soundproofing techniques and materials employed when the resort was built apparently weren't the best. You have a couple of extra small flights of steps to climb, but you don't hear clomping and stomping over your head when you're trying to sleep. ;) :paw:

I grew up in Southern Cal. and have this advice: go in the summer. Yes, it's hot and sticky, but the ocean is 85 degrees! You will never find a beach like the one here, not so much the physical beauty (which is gorgeous) but also the whole atmosphere. HH is a wonderful family place to go. So much to do and explore. Once you come you'll want to return. For people on the East coast, HH is a top vacation destination; you are fortunate to have home resort points to be able to book at 11 months. Try to come right after school is out in June if you can---4th of July week is by far the busiest week of the whole summer.

Another vote for summer. This is our home resort as well and we enjoy spending our summer vacation here. We did go the last week of March this year as well. It was a nice break from cold, dreary Philly, but not really ocean swimming weather (though we did spend lots of time on the beach.)

Summer is certainly busy, most likely any week from mid-June through Labor Day the resort is full and the island is jammed. That said, it is still very relaxing and plenty of room for everyone.

Hurricane season should not really deter you. HHI is very well protected and, except for last September, the southern coast of SC very rarely gets a direct hit. If you can get away, Sept & October are special times on HHI, no crowds and fabulous beach weather.

This isn't really related, but just out of curiosity, does anyone know how Hilton Head got its name? Does it have anything to do with Hilton hotels?

Hi,

Never gone after May! May is wonderful though. Good luck deciding!!

Hi there. Going to HH for the first time the first week of November

Can anyone tell me what types of fun recreation there are at that time of year? Thanks!

P.S. Are there any members' activities like there are at WDW?
