I am going to DVC Hilton Head 17th May 2008 for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom
Should I be requesting any specific area as we do at OKW like Turtle pond or near Hospitality house .....or does it not matter at this resort

I think it matters depending on what you want to be close to...pool? Marsh/intercoastal view from your backporch? proximity to wireless internet? We probably had one of the worst views available...marina view from second bedroom plus courtyard view...and it was fine.

The Hilton Head resort is really pretty small. No matter where you are, you're not THAT far from anything...

If you're poolside, you're also close to Community Hall and the Mercantile; but you will be farther away from the front desk and the shuttle to the beach.

Some people like marsh view; others like marina view; still others like the interior view. We've been to the resort many times and have probably stayed in just about every building (well, maybe not the ones that used to allow smoking ;) ) and can honestly say that there are no "bad" locations at the resort.

It's a place to have to visit to fully understand what I mean. :thumbsup2 But really, don't worry about your location -- you'll love the place no matter where you are!

Hilton Head is probably our favorite DVC resort and most room locations are great. One year we had the 2 bedroom unit directly behind the water slide and it was a bit loud. I usually like to sit on the deck in the afternoon and read but I couldn't in this area. It was entertaining to listen to the kids waiting their turn on the water slide so not a total loss.

OK, so thinking about going late Aug./09.:beach:
Would be driving down from Southern Ontario, stopping to see a few sights on the way there with DH, DS(13 by then), and DD(11 by then).:drive:
Tell me all you can about the resort--things to see there, and near by.:surfweb:
Thanks

Here's a map of the units with the various views coded. Hope that this helps!

I go to HHI every Sept on a golf trip (not thru DVC) and have also been with my family. The big things on the island are golf, tennis and the beach. The beach is excellent, unfortunately the DVC resort is not on the beach. They can shuttle you there, however.

There are water sport rentals. You can go to Harbor Town to see the marina and light house (it is located in Sea Pines Plantations and they charge $5.00 per car for a day pass). You can drive 45 minutes to Savannah and walk the river front where they have turned the old warehouses into shopping and restaurants. If you don't mind driving a little farther you can make a day trip to Charleston, a beautiful old city. If you go there take a carriage ride.

There are several bike rental places on the island and bike paths throughout if you enjoy that.

We'll be there the second week in March. Any advice for me? Will things be open, since it's not exactly 'the season'?

We've gone several times in March and in late February, and fortunately, most everything is open then.
