Hello all

I just recently booked my first dvc stay at Hilton Head in a 2 br for early to mid May. Does anyone have any tips for room requests? What is the weather typically like in May? Any activities or things I should check out while there?

Thanks in advance.

For room requests, definitely request top floor, marsh view. I always choose that order because top floor is more important to me since I'm a light sleeper and it can be noisy overhead. But if marsh view is more important, definitely put that as #1. My favorite buildings are Building 31 and then Building 29. I did just find out that Buildings 14 and 15 have a separate balcony in the 2nd bedroom, if that interests you. Those buildings are in front of a boardwalk. It looks like they have a wonderful view (we've never stayed there), but there will be foot traffic in front of your balconies. We've never been in May, but we definitely want to. In fact, we are thinking of selling our two small contracts that have a June UY just to get a larger contract with an April UY so we can go the end of April/beginning of May. It's so hot in the summer, and we enjoy cooler temps. Definitely rent bikes. We did this for the first time last week and loved it!

Thanks so much! I have points that expire at the end of May. I’m hoping that it will be warm enough for the pool. I neglected to mention, I will have my three kids under 7. Hoping the pool and beach will keep them happy.

Ah, so you have a June UY, too! It will definitely be warm enough for the pool. The pool is heated, and May is already pretty warm in Hilton Head Island. I don't know if the ocean will be very warm yet though.

we just booked September. This will be a first for us. We are usually WDW lovers but wanted to do something different. I would love any pointers. What restaurants are in driving distance? Also shopping etc.? We plan on biking and walking the beach but I may need to do a little more to stay sane

Gosh, there are so many restaurants nearby British Open Pub, Elas on the Water, Scott's Fish Market, Poseidon, Hilton Head Diner are all within a few minutes About 15 minutes out are Sea Shack, Kenny Bs, Old Oyster Factory, Black Marlin, Skullcreek Boathouse, Dockside Hilton Head has so many good restaurants We're very seafood oriented on HHI, so someone else might come along and help you with Pizza and BBQ recommendations
As far as things to do, someone asked me that yesterday I have a hard time just because for me, I could sit in the swing behind the main Lodge for hours with my binoculars and watch the activities of the birds and fish, then go back to our villa and read That's all I need

We live about 1 hr from WDW and have been DVC members about 10 years and enjoy to travel anywhere and everywhere! Before COVID hit, we had been fortunate enough to stay at every current existing DVC property but HHI (owners at BLT & VB). HHI has always been on our list but just never could work it in. Well after we had to cancel our Disneyland Paris & Italy plans for summer 2020 I started looking for summer dates in March 2020 at HHI and after stalking for some time I was able to string together 5 nights in a 2BR in Aug 2020. We are about a 6 hr drive to HHI so packed up the bikes and off we went. Did a lot of research here on the boards but still were not sure what to expect and all I can say is that we loved it!! Biking everywhere was a highlight for us. We biked to restaurants, mini golf, beach, etc. Many restaurants nearby (not like Vero in that regard). With the current situation, having so many outdoor activities was key. The location is so nice and close to everything. We would love to get back there sometime as it was just a great experience for us. I will say the furniture, etc is a bit worn and they are scheduled for a refurb starting in 2022 that they will need. Having said that, I would still go back now even with the "older" features. CMs were great and the views were too. I believe @DisneyStarWisher was the the one that recommended Bldg 31 when I made a post over the summer and we loved being out there. Thank you!

Yes, that probably was me. I LOVE Building 31! We are planning on heading back in June with the whole family so we will be in a 2-BR, and that will definitely be my request.

First time at HH coming up soon - I understand I have to request a pack n play....We are in a 1 bedroom....we don't need an elevator so don't need the main building....should I request "marsh view" or are there any other options?

Be aware that in summer restaurants and even take out can fill up fast! I had a lot of trouble finding us BBQ, in August, because I didn't book in advance or order take out in the morning. Lesson learned!

The one bedrooms that are not in the lodge are in buildings 16, 18, 19, 28, and 30. They are all on the first floor in those buildings. If you don't mind the first floor (which, at DHHIR is one story up), the most beautiful marsh view is in building 18.
As far as a pack n play, we always have one in our 1 Bedroom, even though we don't request one nor have we needed one for about 40 years.

Before you sell and buy contracts to get the June use year, you should try a visit in the fall. It is cooler than the summer and usually the ocean water is still warm enough to swim in.

If you don't have a pack-n-play in your 1BR, just call the front desk, and they'll dispatch someone to get one to you. As Simba's Mom mentioned, there are only five 1BRs that don't exist in the main building (11) or the attached building (12). Of those, only Bldg 18 has a true marsh view, so the odds of getting that one room is low. However, there are fairly good marsh views from both 11 & 12. If you want a marsh view, definitely put that in your request. The other option most sought after is close to the pool. Truly, the resort is relatively small, so no building is more than a 3-minute walk from said pool. However, of the five buildings with 1BRs in them, 18 & 19 (28 & 30 are a close second) are the closest. Overall, just be aware that when it comes to 1BRs, your options are more limited in terms of location. Enjoy the resort!

Actually we usually go in the fall. We just want to also go in the spring as well. What we want is an April UY for that reason. We may look into staying somewhere else for our spring trips and then at the Disney resort in the fall.

We are booked in August. This will be our first trip to HHI. We went to Vero 3 years ago and really loved it. Looking at the Beach House pool, it appears to be striped for lap swimming. Does anyone know how long it is? I would really love to be able to swim laps, maybe early in the day before things become crowded.

Roughly 40-45 feet. The BH pool doesn't open until 9 a.m, and if you're there right at opening, you might be able to get a few laps in before it gets busier. Given it will be August, thus hot, I wouldn't count on being able to swim laps; however, obviously, it will depend on who and how many show up about the same time as you. Good luck!
