Thanks to all for the great information. I would have suspected that the toll booth on the Cross Island Expressway might be a slower route than just staying on Rt 278 - but maybe more traffic lights make 278 a slower route. I also would have thought that the traffic circle would cause significant delay during high volume traffic periods. I am from New England and traffic circles are always a bottleneck around here.

We usually take the Expressway. While it is a little farther, it eliminates the traffic lights and LOTS of traffic unless you are going very early morning or late evening (when traffic is very low anyway). We have never had a line at the tollbooth since many locals use the Palmetto Pass electronic system and don't need to stop. At busy times there are usually two booths open besides the Palmetto lanes. Cost is $1.25 for autos.

Once you cross the Expressway bridge, after the tollbooth, turn left at the first light (or any of the other access streets) onto Arrow Road. This will bring you back to 278 missing the traffic circle. Turn left and it's around 2 miles down to the Disney Resort.

I agree about the traffic circle and traffic does back up there frequently but Arrow Road will bypass the need to use the roundabout.

A pp listed a link too the traffic cameras. You don't have to worry about them anymore. The new law is all tickets must be delivered in person by an officer of the originating jurisdiction. Unless of course you live on hilton head, then it won't be hard to give you a ticket.
This applies to that I95 ridgeville camera too.

We had a great trip. We arrived at the resort at about 3:15pm on Saturday July 16 and encountered no traffic delays on Rt 278 between I95 and the Disney Resort in Shelter Cove Marina. Drive time was about 1/2 hour on this section of road. I guess our timing was OK. My son arrived taking the same route about an hour later and was in enough traffic that the same route took him about 1 hour.
